Should I Draft Dontayvion Wicks? Fantasy Outlook for the Packers’ WR in 2024

Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks may have a sneaky 2024 fantasy outlook due to oft-injured players ahead of him on the depth chart.

While Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks’ fantasy football outlook in 2024 will never be at the level of any fantasy team names you can make using his name (there are infinite possibilities for something involving John Wick), he’s one of many young receivers on the roster which will hurt how often he’s able to be productive.

Here, I’ll examine his fantasy outlook in 2024 and potentially give you the green light on whether to draft him.

Dontayvion Wicks’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season

There’s a fantasy football strategy that can call for waiting on receivers to load up on running backs, but Wicks is so far down the ADP list he’s bound to be a candidate on your waiver wire.

According to TruMedia, Wicks saw 32 of his 58 targets on plays in which converting a first down was between seven and 10 yards away from a first down. He also ran 173 of his 285 routes within these same confines.

He also caught four touchdowns, with three coming on third downs, so he was seemingly somewhat of a security blanket for Jordan Love in his first season as a starting quarterback.

However, across the whole season, he was targeted just 58 times, catching 39 passes for 581 yards (14.9 yards per catch). He was third on the team in targets.

The Packers did bring in Josh Jacobs to be the bell-cow running back, and they’ll hopefully have Christian Watson available at the beginning of the year. Looking at the depth chart, Wicks is a great candidate to step in for Watson should he get injured, which has happened more often than not so far in his NFL career.

If that happens, Wicks will still need to compete for targets with Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Luke Musgrave, and Tucker Kraft.

Love threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns in his first season as the Packers’ starter. He had just two games with 300 yards or more but finished with 250 yards or more eight times.

I fully expect the training wheels to come off Love, which should help Wicks generate a bit more value.

Is Wicks a Good Fantasy Pick?

Looking at the options going around Wicks in the WR60 range, he’s certainly a standout from the group. It’s a depth chart littered with potential targets, so there could be too many cooks in Green Bay’s kitchen. However, if Watson gets injured, Wicks will step up in his place. Watson has played in 23 games over the last two seasons, so chances are he could miss time.

Wicks had four games with 50 receiving yards or more but finished with more than three catches just four times. He’s a guy who could consistently post lines of 2-50-1, which could make him a decent bye-week Flex fill-in depending on the state of the Packers roster and an intriguing late-round best-ball pick.
