The Colorado Buffaloes’ quarterback–wide receiver duo, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, entered the NFL under vastly different circumstances. While Hunter was selected No. 2 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars and is viewed as a generational talent. Sanders, meanwhile, fell to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round and will have to fight for a roster spot.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill shared his thoughts on both players, but not before making a joke that briefly caused a stir among fans.

Tyreek Hill Gives Thoughts on Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter
On the field, Hill is one of the NFL’s top playmakers. Even after not having the best of seasons, his presence alone creates matchups no defender wants to face. Off the field, however, Hill is no stranger to controversy, known for making bold, sometimes divisive statements, something that seems to follow many wide receivers in the league.
That reputation was on display in a May 27 video where Hill offered his thoughts on the two NFL rookies.

He ultimately praised both, saying Sanders and Hunter will be “dawgs” in the NFL. However, before praising the players, Hill caught fans off guard with a sarcastic jab. When asked specifically about Hunter, he initially gave a negative response in a deadpan tone, one that momentarily confused some viewers before he clarified it was a joke.
Hill’s recognition carries weight. Not only is he one of the best wide receivers of the past decade, but he’s also played alongside star quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagovailoa. That gives him strong credentials to speak on the future of rookies like Hunter and Sanders, both of whom have the skillsets to realistically dream of long NFL careers.

For Sanders to truly become a “dawg” in the NFL, he’ll first need to win over the “Dawg Pound,” the Browns’ nickname for their passionate fan base. The quarterback will have to outperform at least three others to earn a regular spot as a backup during the season. The team added Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel this offseason, making the competition for final roster spots much tougher.
As for Hunter, he faces the greatest challenge of any rookie: proving he can handle playing on both offense and defense. While he was elite at both positions in college, the NFL is a different level. If he can pull it off, he has a chance to become a truly prolific player in the league.
Hill didn’t elaborate much on what makes Sanders and Hunter special, but his endorsement adds to the growing hype surrounding the two former Colorado stars. They haven’t played a snap in the NFL yet, but they’re rookies that many fans will keep tabs on throughout the 2025 season.
