Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill is proclaimed by many as the fastest man in the NFL. His ‘Cheetah’ nickname comes from his 4.29 40-yard dash time, incredible athleticism, and unwavering confidence.
Dolphins HC Uninterested As Hill Trains for Race Against Olympic Sprinter
Hill’s confidence is nothing new, as the Dolphins wideout has stated numerous times that he is one of the fastest people on the planet. The 5-foot-10 receiver has challenged many talented runners to a race, and one finally appears to be taking the bait.
Originally, Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles would not fall for Hill’s antics and refused the competition. However, in March 2025, the two agreed to terms. With the race’s logistics finally settled, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel has no interest in the long-awaited battle. McDaniel was straightforward when asked about Hill and his training for the event.
“I have no idea, nor do I care,” McDaniel said.
With the race projected to go down before the NFL season begins in August, Hill is preparing for both his NFL season and race.
He continues to labor with an injured wrist this offseason, which he had surgery on in February. While the injury won’t stop his training for the race with Lyles, it has hindered his football training.
McDaniel claimed that the one-time Super Bowl champion has been hitting the strength room hard along with route running involving no blocking.
Terms and Conditions for Hill-Lyles Race and Never-Ending Trash Talk
After Hill proposed a 40-meter race and was denied, Lyles claimed that a 100-meter race would be a blowout in favor of the seven-time gold medalist. The back and forth led to the agreement of a 60-meter race on a track that includes starting blocks.
A month before the race was officially agreed upon, Lyles took to social media, foreshadowing what was to come. Hill did not take kindly to Lyles’ confidence, giving a blunt response in return.

As two champions collide, there is no surprise that each is equally confident in their abilities. Once a date is finalized, the race will likely be among the most anticipated sports crossovers. As NFL and NBA players have made their way into the boxing ring to face influencers, amateurs, and more, could Hill and Lyles be pioneering something similar in racing?
With no room to hide now, Hill and Lyles will settle the score on the track.
