As the 2025 NFL Draft draws closer, the case for Shedeur Sanders is getting more complicated by the day. Whether it is scouts, the media, current or even former players, everyone has an opinion on how the son of Deion Sanders is going to fare in the NFL.
Joining the party of people voicing their opinions was a bonafide legend in Chicago Bears history, Devin Hester. One of the all-time greats in franchise history, Hester was clear in his admiration of the young quarterback, making a case for where he should fall in the Draft.

Devin Hester Says Shedeur Sanders Is Top-5 Talent
Arguably the greatest return specialist of all time, the Hall of Famer built an indelible legacy with the Bears during his eight-year tenure with the franchise. Earning four Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections, Hester made the 2000s and 2010s NFL All-Decade Team.
However, in his retirement life, he took time to join Kay Adams on the “Up & Adams” show to break down the upcoming NFL Draft and specifically Shedeur Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes. First, the conversation was around his father, the legendary Deion Sanders.
“I would say the negativity that you get from the fans that just don’t understand sports or just don’t understand the father and son passion you have when it comes to sports.” For him, that father-son dynamic has brought a ton of negativity toward Shedeur.

But the way the Colorado Buffaloes superstar has dealt with that negativity is a huge positive for Hester. In a week where Shedeur patting the ball dropped his stock, Hester went against the grain.
“Most definitely, he has to be, man. There’s no question [on Shedeur being a top-five pick].” His play for the Buffaloes surely warrants that discussion. Sanders turned a one-win program into a nine-win team in the span of two years.
However, it wasn’t just team success for the quarterback as he added 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns while completing an absurd 74% of his passes as well. That performance made him a consensus top-two QB in the draft alongside Cam Ward.
But Shedeur’s stock has suffered a downfall in recent times. As a result, both in the odds market and in the latest mock draft from PFSN’s Brentley Weissman, he is slated to go No. 9 overal; to the New Orleans Saints.
Hester is clearly against the idea, but some believe it might be in his best interest. Ultimately, we’ll likely get our answer come April 24 at Lambeau Field.
