This week on the Future Is Now, host George Templeton gives you a huge offering with the free agency reviews and draft outlooks for two NFL divisions. To help, he brings on PFN Writers Felix Davila and James Aguirre to talk about the NFC East and West.
Formerly retired tight end, now retired broadcaster, Jason Witten has rejoined the Dallas Cowboys and is now another option for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. In recent days, they have gotten a signature on the dotted line from franchise-tagged defensive end Demarcus Lawrence (unfortunately this pod was recorded and finished minutes before the announcement). This signing will help the Cowboys stay solid for the 2019 season but still raises questions at positions like safety, and at times quarterback.
The Washington Redskins, do lack the talent at quarterback. This could potentially lead to the Redskins drafting a QB like Daniel Jones out of Duke University during the NFL Draft. Then there are the New York Giants, with the lack of potential movement at QB, the Eli Manning era could spark another horrible season for Giants fans. Lastly, the team with the most hope in the NFC East is the Philadelphia Eagles. They had two potential starting QBs on their roster before Nick Foles bought himself out of his deal and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. They have also traded for running back Jordan Howard from the Chicago Bears.
If you are a fan of the NFC West, you are in luck! With two teams potentially taking down the Los Angeles Rams throne, the NFC West should be a fun division this season. That is unless the Seahawks trade star QB Russell Wilson. Wilson has won a Super Bowl but has since been the only season why the Seahawks were relevant. Wanting a new contract by April 15th could spell bad news for Seahawks fans.
The San Francisco 49ers have their QB for the future – Jimmy Garrapolo His recovery from injury will decide if they succeed in this upcoming season. Rams fans don’t worry – you’re going to be just fine this season. Your core is solid, and until a new contract for Jared Goff is on the table, you’ll have plenty of room to make necessary moves.
Lastly, the Arizona Cardinals. Honestly, they need to either make it known to Josh Rosen that they will draft Kyler Murray, or they should find a trade partner to sail Rosen away to….unless this is all an elaborate smoke screen and realistically the Cardinals are the smartest franchise in the NFL.
Questions to think about during the show
What will the Giants and Redskins do in the first round of the NFL Draft? Will the Seahawks trade Russell Wilson?
