Deebo Samuel Makes Less-Than-Surprising Claim That Brock Purdy Is NFL MVP

The 49ers are 9-3 heading into Week 14 and are one of the NFL's best, and Deebo Samuel believes quarterback Brock Purdy is the NFL's MVP.

The San Francisco 49ers look like the best team in the NFL through Week 14 of the 2023 season. A big reason why has been their plethora of talent, as well as their quarterback, Brock Purdy.

49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel believes Purdy is the NFL’s league MVP and that it isn’t even a discussion.

Brock Purdy Is Deebo Samuel’s MVP

In 12 games this season, Purdy has passed for 3,185 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He has led the 49ers to a 9-3 record. “Man, my boy [Brock Purdy] No. 1 right now,” Samuel said during his appearance on the ‘Up & Adams’ show with Kay Adams.

Samuel, who has missed two games this season due to injury, has caught 38 passes for 590 yards and three touchdowns. He also adds 29 rushes for 160 yards and four more touchdowns.

“It ain’t even up for debate. He’s just got to keep stacking games, stacking days, stacking weeks. We got to go out here and continue to make plays for him, and I think he’ll get the job done as far as the MVP conversation,” Samuel said.

Purdy, who is in his sophomore season, was drafted with the final selection of the 2022 NFL Draft, a pick that bestows the nickname of Mr. Irrelevant. He started five regular season games in his rookie season and had action in nine games. In those games, he passed for 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns, and four interceptions. The 49ers were 5-0 when he was the starter.

Purdy led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game, where they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles after he went down with an injury. In Week 13, Purdy and the 49ers avenged that loss, defeating Philadelphia 42-19.

Although Samuel thinks Purdy should be the league MVP, that isn’t Purdy’s end goal. “I don’t think that’s his ideal goal as far as something that he really wants to accomplish right now,” Samuel said. “I think, at the end of the day, as a whole, as a group, as a team, we want to be standing there at the end of the year holding the Lombardi Trophy.”

San Francisco holds the second seed in the NFC, only half a game behind the Eagles, who sit at 10-2. The 49ers will face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14, who they beat 31-13 on Thanksgiving night. The team still has matchups scheduled with the Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles Rams.
