Darius Slay’s Wife Reveals Emotional 2-Word Response to News of Eagles Star Being Released

After five years in Philadelphia, Darius Slay will be looking for a new home in 2025. The Eagles have designated Slay as a post-June 1 cut, saving the team $4.3 million against the salary cap.

While the team is poised to continue its dominance of the NFC, with several young players making up one of the most feared defenses in the NFL, the news hasn’t gone over well in the Slay household. Slay’s wife, Jennifer, took to X to express her feelings about the move.

Eagles Parting Ways With Darius Slay

Fresh off a Super Bowl win, you could forgive Slay for wanting to live in the moment. But the harsh reality of life as an NFL player in his 30s has caught up to the six-time Pro Bowler. On March 3, the Eagles announced they would move on from Slay, with the veteran cornerback set to be released after June 1.

Slay’s time in Philadelphia ended under a shower of confetti as the Eagles paraded the Vince Lombardi Trophy around Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. He contributed throughout the 2024 season and into the playoffs, including a key interception in the Wild Card round against Green Bay as the Packers attempted a comeback.

Slay leaves Philadelphia after five seasons with 10 interceptions, 200 return yards, and two touchdowns.

“Real Tears” – Slay’s Wife Reacts to News

With the yearly carousel of roster cuts, trades, retirements, and draft picks, it’s easy to forget the toll these decisions take on a player’s family. In reaction to the news that her husband would be released, Jennifer Slay summed up her emotions in two words.

Clearly happy with life in Philadelphia, the Slay family will no doubt be heartbroken to leave a team and city where they have made so many memories. On February 14, Jennifer Slay posted a video on social media after the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade through the city.

In her post, she praised the team’s fans for their overwhelming support at the celebration.

But things may not be settled just yet, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

As Schultz notes, the door may be open for Slay to return to the team on a lesser contract.

It will be interesting to see how Slay fares on the open market and how much interest he still commands at 34 years old. He has previously stated that he wants to retire as an Eagle after the 2025 season, so a reunion certainly isn’t out of the question.
