Dante Moore has a major decision to make this year as the 2026 NFL Draft approaches. The Oregon Ducks quarterback will need to decide if he wants to declare or return to college football for another season. An analyst recently explained why he should enter the draft, despite potentially landing in a bad situation with the New York Jets.
Dante Moore Urged to Declare for 2026 NFL Draft Despite Potential Landing Spot with Jets
Moore is projected to be one of the top overall picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, as long as he decides to come out of college this year. Some have speculated that he could decide not to declare this year to avoid potentially landing with the Jets. Still, Peter Schrager disagrees with this strategy. He explained why the coveted quarterback prospect should enter the draft, regardless of the Jets’ rumored interest in picking him.
“If you’re the number-two overall pick, it might be time to jump to the NFL … In defense of the New York Jets’ situation, they have one of the best offensive lines in football … They have four picks in the top 44 … and you got Garrett Wilson as a wide receiver … Aaron Glenn or not, if you’re the number-two overall pick, come in here and you can be the next great hope … Maybe you’re the guy, and then you’re a king in this city,” explained Schrager.
Moore currently ranks 22nd among all collegiate quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for this season, but many draft experts project him to be the second overall selection, potentially. Most have predicted that Fernando Mendoza will be picked first by the Las Vegas Raiders, with Moore going immediately after him to the Jets.
Some have warned the Ducks’ superstar against declaring for this year’s draft to avoid landing with the Jets, who are in an undesirable situation, according to many who cover the league.
Schrager proposed the opposite solution for the prized prospect, reminding him that they have plenty of assets to build their roster accordingly, and also pointed out the potential spotlight of playing in New York.
Schrager also reminded everyone that the top college quarterback prospects at the beginning of this season, such as Drew Allar and Garrett Nussmeier, are no longer projected to be top picks this year. He warned Moore that he’s risking a similar situation if he returns to college, so he would be wise to strike now while his draft stock is at an elite level.
