The 2025 NFL Draft is almost here, meaning after months of waiting, a flurry of franchise-changing activity will occur. Some teams will rise because of what happens over the three days of the NFL draft. Other teams will ruin their futures.
Dan Orlovsky Reveals Which HC/GM Duo Needs to Nail the 2025 NFL Draft
It’s a pressure-packed moment for general managers, who often get to apply pressure on others for the other 362 days of the year. Speaking on an April 21 edition of “Get Up,” NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky shared which head coach and general manager duo is under the most pressure.
“There’s no general manager and head coach in a more difficult and worse situation than Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll. And everyone knows how much I love Brian Daboll because the reality is this. By nature, [the] head coach [and] general manager, they want to do what’s best for the football team. It’s kind of how they’re made. The Giants, [with] Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, they’re in a situation where they kind of have to do what’s best for [their careers].”
“That’s the really difficult part about it, because they have to save their job by mid-November. And let’s be honest, no pick at number three, other than a quarterback, is going to do that. Abdul Carter is not going to save their job. He might be a transcendent player. He’s not going to save their job. Travis Hunter, he’s not going to save their job.”
In other words, it sounds like Orlovsky believes that if the Giants don’t land a quarterback, Daboll and Schoen’s futures are essentially sealed — and not in a good way.
Exploring Scenarios With the New York Giants Ending Up With a QB
As it stands, the Giants’ quarterback room comes down to Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Wilson ranked 17th on PFSN’s QB+ metric. The room will be complete if the G-men decide to go with a premium rookie quarterback.
There are a few different paths to this outcome. The Giants could ignore the quieting buzz around Shedeur Sanders and take him at third overall. They could also trade back for Sanders or Jaxson Dart.
If not, they might use their second-round pick to draft a rookie like Jalen Milroe. Unlike some teams, the Giants have the luxury of multiple shots at this year’s rookie quarterback class.
If they don’t come away with a rookie quarterback, most would agree it’s on them.
