Free agency is over and the NFL Draft is around the corner. With the Dallas Cowboys still in need of a running back, how good of a fit would they have been had they attempted to sign Derrick Henry before he went to the Baltimore Ravens?

The Cowboys were pretty inactive in free agency, leaving their draft needs relatively the same. How could they have used Derrick Henry? Additionally, could they be a team to make a surprise quarterback pick in Round 1?
2024 NFL Draft: Cowboys Among Teams That Could Shock With Round 1 QB
Of all the needs the Cowboys have going into 2024, quarterback isn’t one of them. However, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t surprise the NFL world and take one in the first round this year. Why? It’s simple, Dak Prescott has one year left on his contract and there’s no guarantee he returns.
If the Cowboys can’t get a deal done, they could draft his future replacement, similar to what the Green Bay Packers did with Jordan Love and Aaron Rodgers. Whoever Dallas hypothetically takes, they would sit behind Prescott in Year 1 and take over in 2025.
On the contrary, the Cowboys aren’t on the clock until the No. 24 pick and, thanks to their poor free agency, have too many roster holes to use their pick on a quarterback who won’t have an immediate impact as a rookie.

One of the biggest acquisitions of free agency was Henry with the Ravens. However, Henry himself even said that the Cowboys could’ve landed him had they been interested. On “The Pivot” podcast, he even acknowledged that Dallas was a “perfect scenario.”
“They ain’t holla at me at all,” said Henry of the Cowboys. “All I know is what I hear. I was talking to my agent. They weren’t really interested. It is what it is. Like I said earlier, I’m gonna be where I’m gonna be, and I feel like Baltimore was the perfect spot.”

Brian Blewis’ Latest 2024 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys Trade for Tackle
The land of mock drafts is always fun, and that was the case for the Cowboys. In Brian Blewis’ most recent mock draft for the 2024 NFL Draft, he had the Cowboys trading up with the Miami Dolphins to land offensive tackle Amarius Mims out of Georgia.
The Cowboys received pick No. 21 by sending the Dolphins picks No. 24 and 87. According to Blewis, the move could be done in fear that the bitter rival Philadelphia Eagles could take Mims. So, they jumped the Eagles and got their guy.
