It has been almost three decades since the Dallas Cowboys last hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. Their last Super Bowl victory came in 1996, saddling them with both a drought and a curse. While the Cowboys have qualified for the playoffs during that title-less stretch, those seasons have mostly been filled with early exits and major disappointments.
With the 12th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they have the option to build up their roster and add some quality players to the lineup. But that could also involve some creativity to give the team the help it needs, says one plugged-in analyst.

Which Wide Receiver Will the Dallas Cowboys Add?
It’s been clear for a while that Dallas is going to prioritize offense in the first round. Outside of quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb, the team doesn’t have a ton of exciting superstars on that side of the ball.
That’s why the Cowboys have been predicted to take a dynamic receiver or running back in this year’s draft. Jump-starting the offense has been the most popular bet for them with the No. 12 pick.
However, PFSN’s Kyle Soppe believes the team might need to take a different approach for the best possible solution.
“The Dallas Cowboys own the No. 12 overall pick and have a handful of glaring weaknesses,” Soppe wrote. “Their activity, as it does for all teams, depends on their draft board, but if their intent is to give Dak Prescott more support, they are positioned well to gain value by moonwalking.”
Soppe believes the wide receiver depth of this year’s draft class is pretty even outside of Travis Hunter. As a result, “Dallas could opt to let the board come to them if they view this receiving class as one of little separation.”

Who are the candidates? “[Tetairoa] McMillan, Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka, Missouri’s Luther Burden III, and the Longhorn duo of Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond, are some receivers who could have the eye of the Cowboys.”
That list could potentially include Kyle Williams as well, but the decision is ultimately going to rest in the hands of Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
Omarion Hampton? Looking at the Latest Mock Drafts
The latest mock draft from PFSN has them skipping out on a wide receiver in the first round. Instead, they added Omarion Hampton out of North Carolina to make the offense unpredictable next season.
“Omarion Hampton is a speedy, physical back who excels at finding open lanes between the tackles. He has bell-cow potential and could prove to be a consistent 1,000-yard runner at the next level, which would be a welcomed addition to the Cowboys’ offense,” PFSN’s Jacob Infante explained in his seven-round mock draft.
With back-to-back seasons tallying over 1,500 yards for the Tar Heels, Hampton can be a genuine game-changer. Add in his ability to affect the game as a pass catcher, and this could quickly become a home run.
Infante has Dallas adding offensive help in the form of a wide receiver in the third round of the draft, with Elic Ayomanor out of Stanford.
Infante wrote: “Only a redshirt sophomore, Elic Ayomanor is a big-bodied receiver who thrives along the boundary with his physicality, body control, and breakaway speed after the catch. He’s a bit raw as a route runner but carries impressive physical potential at the next level.”
