The Dallas Cowboys have been projecting a belief that they could soon end their 29-year wait for a Super Bowl. Both quarterback Dak Prescott and head coach Brian Schottenheimer have spoken publicly on the topic of winning, with both sounding bullish about their chances.
In a recent episode of “Get Up” on ESPN, former Pro Bowl linebacker Bart Scott has pumped the brakes on the idea that a Lombardi Trophy could soon be on its way to Dallas.

Former Pro Bowler Questions Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl Chances
While discussing the potentially important quarterback storylines of the 2025 season, the “Get Up” team turned its attention to Prescott. Prescott has voiced his desire to win a Super Bowl multiple times this year, while Schottenheimer has also predicted success for the team in the short term.
When host Matt Barrie asked whether the team had done enough in the offseason to be considered a contender, Scott answered affirmatively. He did, however, state that the team had a lot of work to do in order to make it happen, while questioning the mental toughness of the current team.
“I think so,” he began. “When you have the offensive talent that you have, then I think you can protect that defense as well.” Scott then quickly changed his tone, warning that, while they have the talent, the Cowboys need to shake things up on a mental level.
“But I always say this, ‘Don’t sell no wolf tickets if you ain’t no wolf.’ Now, you’re sitting out there and you want to be the Big Bad Wolf, and you proclaim that you wanna get to a Super Bowl and you wanna win a Super Bowl, but you have to be self-aware.”
Scott suggested that the team had continuously underperformed in recent years, pointing to a lack of mental strength.
“They need mental toughness. This is a team that has always been mentally weak, because they’ve been coddled, and because things are too nice.” The former Pro Bowler suggested that Schottenheimer needed to break some lingering bad habits before building the team back up with new ones.
“It’s one thing to be a talented collection of players; it’s another thing to be a team. And to do that, you’ve gotta take people and you’ve gotta strip ’em down, to the bare bones, and build ’em back up.”
While there were some raised eyebrows from the likes of Dan Graziano at some of Scott’s accusations, there was a general feeling of agreement that something needed to change. The Cowboys turned several phenomenal regular seasons into hapless playoff disappointments under Mike McCarthy, something they need to change under Schottenheimer.
I definately agree that they lack the mental toughness but I don’t think Dallas will ever win a super bowl with Dak Prescott. He definitely doesn’t have the mental toughness to even get them to the post season!!
