Speaking to Kay Adams on her show, “Up And Adams,” Hall Of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin would love to see Shedeur Sanders in a Cowboys uniform. After Adams brought up the idea of his former team drafting his former teammate’s son, Irvin couldn’t hide his excitement.

Michael Irvin Says Cowboys Would Have to Draft Shedeur Sanders
While discussing the Dallas Cowboys and their plans for the 2025 NFL Draft, Adams brought up the topic of quarterbacks. After mentioning that Cowboys executive Stephen Jones had said the team would look to draft a young quarterback, Adams suggested Sanders.
“Stephen Jones said that one of the goals is to get a young quarterback in the draft. So I’m gonna throw this curveball at you. If Shedeur Sanders is there, for some reason, would you take him?”
Irvin’s response began calmly but quickly turned to excitement.
“You’re gonna need something for the future. And if you can get a chance, absolutely!”
Irvin had to compose himself to complete his answer, the possibility that Dallas could draft Sanders clearly a new idea to him. The Cowboys legend then leapt to the defense of Sanders, in reference to questions that have been raised about the prospect’s character.
Irvin Defends Sanders’ Character, Believes It to Be a Positive
“I love Shedeur. And all of that noise that people are talking about, talking about ‘oh he’s this, he’s that,’ I’m like shut up. He’s exactly what you need.” Irvin stated his belief that not only would Sanders’ personality not be a problem, but it’s part of what makes him special.
“That’s the kind of dude, that plays in big games – well! He’s used to you coming at him. Keep coming, that’s the stuff that he eats on and makes him play better.” Irvin touched on the possibility of Sanders ending up in New York, noting that a strong personality is needed to succeed there.
“If New York drafts him, he’ll do great in New York. Now, that’s a hard thing too, you talk about playing well in New York. You see how they destroy a lot of quarterbacks, they don’t have the mentality to survive that, absolutely Shedeur does.”
Irvin claimed that the Cowboys could keep Dak Prescott, while securing their future with Sanders. Cheekily suggesting that he’d pair Shedeur with his father after a year or two.
“And then, maybe in another year or two, I can get Deion.”

Irvin played with Deion for the final five years of his career. After winning two Super Bowls before Sanders’ arrival, Irvin then won his third at the end of the 1995 season, Sanders’ first with the team. Deion had won his first Super Bowl the previous year, with the San Francisco 49ers.
Today, both players have their names forever etched into NFL history, as members of the Pro Football Hall Of Fame. And come September, it’s clear that both will have a keen eye on Shedeur, wherever he ends up.
