After the Dallas Cowboys secured a much-needed 33-16 win against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night, the biggest play came from the owner’s box. Team owner Jerry Jones didn’t just praise his quarterback, Dak Prescott; he made a statement that puts Prescott ahead of Cowboys legends like Troy Aikman and Tony Romo in one critical area, sparking debate across the fan base.

Why Did Jerry Jones Call Dak Prescott the Best Leader in Cowboys History?
In an interview on “105.3 The Fan” on Tuesday, Jerry Jones called Dak Prescott the best team leader he has encountered in his 36 years of owning the Dallas Cowboys. This is a mighty declaration, given the Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor names who have passed through the franchise.
“Time and time again, he is the best leader that I’ve been around for a team,” Jones said. “Period. He just has a natural sense of what the situation calls for. He’s had it since he’s walked through the door. So much of the good things that he’s been a part of have to do with that skill right there.”
“He brings a certain confidence out there,” Jones continued. “You know you got a guy that he can have a bad series, he can have a bad quarter, but you know you got a guy that’ll come out there and just completely erase it from his mind and really be as aggressive as it calls for. From the get-go this year, he’s been our stalwart relative to our chance to win.”
To be clear, that strong language places Prescott’s leadership qualities above those of Troy Aikman, the three-time Super Bowl champion, Tony Romo, one of the most prolific passers in team history, and iconic players like Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.
Prescott’s performance in the 2025-26 campaign certainly backs up that praise. Through 10 games, he has thrown for 2,587 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions, and holds a 102.5 passer rating while completing a career-high 69.9% of his attempts.
In the Monday night win alone, he finished 25-of-33 for 268 yards and four touchdowns. His PFSN QB Impact Score is 83.4 with a B grade, which ranks him 6th among all quarterbacks this season.
That leadership was on full display during the game itself. Even though CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were benched for the opening series, Prescott and Zack Martin steadied the sideline, and the offense executed cleanly once the receivers returned. Lamb finished with five catches for 66 yards, and Pickens added a touchdown on nine receptions for 144 yards. As a result of that stability, the Cowboys scored on six of their ten drives.
