Cowboys Legend Dez Bryant Drops Straightforward Strategy for Defeating Eagles in Season Opener

The Dallas Cowboys are set to open their season against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys are going to be eager to start their season off hot with a statement victory after yet another unsuccessful season.

It is going to be a tall task to take down the Eagles in Philadelphia, but Cowboys legend Dez Bryant thinks he knows what the team has to do to shock the world and win the game. For Bryant, it’s simple. Stop their best player.

Dez Bryant Offers His Strategy To Defeat the Eagles

Responding to a post on Monday, Bryant opted against offering an elaborate strategy for the Cowboys to defeat the Eagles. According to him, the key to victory is to stop Saquon Barkley.

“As long as we slow down Saquon Eugene Barkley..we’ll be fine lol,” Bryant wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Bryant knows that slowing down Barkley is essential. The Eagles’ offense is very dangerous, and Barkley is a huge piece of the puzzle for Philadelphia. Barkley put up one of the best seasons by a running back in NFL history in 2024.

He was outstanding all season and will surely need to be contained if the Cowboys want to have any chance of leaving their season opener with a win.

Barkley ran for 2,005 yards with 13 rushing touchdowns. He was just the ninth player in NFL history to reach the 2,000 rushing yard mark in a single season. He was dominant all season on his way to taking home the Offensive Player of the Year award.

A third-place finish in MVP, being named to the Pro Bowl, and a First-Team All-Pro appearance rounded out the accolades that Barkley took home last season.

Bryant’s strategy is straightforward. Stopping the player who took home every award is a great idea in theory. The problem with Bryant’s approach is that the Eagles offense has plenty of other weapons that can hurt them, such as Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith.

It’s going to be hard to keep all of these weapons in check for a full game. The Cowboys have their work cut out for them.

The Cowboys can’t simply get away with a good defensive performance alone, as they need their offense to be productive against a good Eagles defense. Dak Prescott will be looking to come out firing on all cylinders after missing half of last season due to injury. The Cowboys’ offense is going to need to have its best game if it wants to upset the champs.

Bryant’s plan might need to be a little more than just containing Barkley, but that is certainly a great start. Going to Lincoln Financial Field and getting a win is going to be a tough task, but Bryant will be hoping the Cowboys are up for the challenge.
