The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a rough 2024 campaign and have had a lackluster offseason outside of trading for George Pickens. The team is expecting big things in 2025, and one NFL reporter recently predicted that a Cowboys star could rewrite the record books next season.

Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb to Set Single-Season Receptions Mark in 2025
Dak Prescott’s Week 9 hamstring injury essentially ended the Cowboys’ season and led to their 7-10 finish. Prescott struggled when healthy, and the offense floundered without him, ranking 28th in passing success rate and 29th in EPA per dropback.
Brian Schottenheimer was promoted to head coach and hopes to lead the Cowboys back to the playoffs. His first goal should be getting CeeDee Lamb back on track.
The four-time Pro Bowler “regressed” to 101 receptions, 1,194 yards, and six touchdowns last season after being a first-team All-Pro in 2023. Prescott’s injury played a big part in that drop, and Lamb reportedly lobbied owner Jerry Jones to find him a worthy running mate this offseason.
Jones heard the request and traded for Pickens after the 2025 NFL Draft. The NFL’s Jeffri Chadiha thinks Pickens’ arrival will pave the way for Lamb to have a record-breaking 2025 campaign.
Chadiha recently released an article with his bold predictions for the 2025 season and wrote, “The Cowboys’ wide receiver will have an easier life with the return of quarterback Dak Prescott from injury and the arrival of wide receiver George Pickens via trade. Lamb already was one of the best receivers in the game, but those two factors will make him one of the most historic.
“Think about it. Lamb produced 135 receptions in 2023 with a healthy Prescott, which was 14 catches shy of the league mark of 149 established by former Saints receiver Michael Thomas in 2019. Lamb also generated 101 catches last season, when Prescott only played in eight games because of a season-ending hamstring injury.”
Cooper Rush took over for Prescott and threw for 1,844 yards and 12 touchdowns. Lamb only totaled 534 yards and two touchdowns with Rush at the helm, so Prescott’s return will be welcomed by the receiver.
Chadiha continued, “You pair Lamb with a receiver as dangerous as Pickens, and it’s likely that opposing defenses will be frustrated on a weekly basis. Lamb has put together three straight 100-catch seasons despite being the focus of defenses tasked with stopping Dallas’ passing attack every year. With all the freedom coming his way this fall, CeeDee’s going to go off.”
Pickens has only surpassed 1,000 yards once in his three-year career, but he was a reliable option for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last year, Pickens posted 59 catches, 900 yards and three touchdowns. He looked good in his first minicamp with Dallas.
The Cowboys made the postseason three straight times under former head coach Mike McCarthy until last year’s disastrous campaign. A healthy Prescott means Dallas has everything it needs to return to the playoffs in 2025. That’s a lot of pressure for a first-time head coach to take on.
While the single-season receptions record would be nice for Lamb, Schottenheimer just wants to get his team back to the postseason.
