The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2025 NFL Draft with a need for depth in the wide receiver room, and they concluded the draft with the same need. Jerry Jones and company decided against drafting a receiver with any of their nine selections, leaving some fans confused and disappointed.
Jones answered to the noise by saying the possibility of adding a veteran receiver was not quite out of the question. His comments beg the question: Who should the Cowboys bring in to aid in taking the load off superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb? One Cowboys insider believes a familiar face, who remains a free agent, should be at the top of the team’s wish list.

Could the Cowboys Bring Back Amari Cooper?
Five-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper remains one of the top available free agents, and a reunion with the team he spent four seasons with might not be out of the question.
Cowboys insider R.J. Ochoa believes the team should target Cooper. However, getting him back would require swallowing some pride.
Is an Amari Cooper reunion on the horizon with the Cowboys? 👀

When asked who the Cowboys should add in the wide receiver room on the “Up And Adams Show,” Ochoa clarified that Cooper should be their top target.
“The name that everybody wants is Amari Cooper,” Ochoa said. “And if they were to bring Amari back, it would really suggest that they’re able to swallow some pride.”
Ochoa believes a possible reunion with the Pro Bowl receiver would prove that Jones and his franchise are willing to swallow their pride and own up to their past mistakes, not only to Cooper but also to the fans.
Ochoa states that Jones and the Cowboys must take some accountability with Cooper due to the trade that sent him to the Browns following the 2021 season, which ultimately did not work out in Jones’ favor.
Cooper, who will turn 31 in the summer, is coming off the most productive season of his career in 2024 and is now hoping for a change of scenery in 2025. Cooper split the 2024 season between the Browns and Bills, but after recording just 547 receiving yards and four touchdowns, both totals being the lowest of his long, successful career, he remains unsigned.
A reunion with star quarterback Dak Prescott in Dallas could help get Cooper back on track. Cooper collected 3893 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns over his four years with the Cowboys, both totals being the most of any other team Cooper played for, making it clear that his best years were spent in Dallas.
Given that fact, Jones might consider bringing back a player with a proven track record with the franchise to help beef up a receiver room that currently lacks the bodies and talent behind the All-Pro Lamb.
However, suppose the Cowboys do not want to consider returning a player who was once traded away. In that case, Ochoa suggests another name that could provide much-needed veteran experience at the wide receiver position.
Could the Cowboys Target Keenan Allen for WR Help?
Following his statement regarding the case for a reunion between Cooper and the Cowboys, Ochoa also threw former Chargers and Bears receiver Keenan Allen into the mix.
Allen has been selected for the Pro Bowl six times throughout his 12-year career, but he remains unsigned after a less-than-impressive 2024 campaign with the Bears. Regardless of his age and production, which shows that his prime days are in the rearview, the 33-year-old could provide veteran experience and necessary depth for any team hoping to contend for a Super Bowl in 2025.
Although Jones has hinted that the Cowboys are indeed searching for help in the wide receiver room, it is unclear if his front office is targeting anyone specific at this time.
However, Ochoa makes it quite clear that both Cooper and Allen’s names could be discussed in Jones’ office as potential additions. Should Jones go out and attempt to acquire a veteran receiver, Ochoa makes a strong case as to why the Cowboys need to swallow their pride and make Cooper their primary target.
