Cornerback Jeff Gladney has passed away at 25 years old

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney has passed away at the young age of 25 following a car accident in Dallas.

Former TCU standout cornerback Jeff Gladney passed away in a car accident on Monday morning at the young age of 25. Brian Overstreet, Gladney’s agent, confirmed the news with Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, saying, “We are asking prayers for the family and privacy at this most difficult time,” Overstreet said.

Reaction following Jeff Gladney’s death

After being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Gladney signed with the Arizona Cardinals during the offseason. He was expected to compete for a starting role with the defense.

The NFL tweeted out a response to the tragic news, “The NFL family mourns the tragic loss of Jeff Gladney and we extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

The Cardinals also released a brief statement that said, “We are devastated to learn of Jeff Gladney’s passing. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who are mourning this tremendous loss.”

Additionally, the Vikings released their own statement, “We are saddened by the tragic death of former Viking Jeff Gladney. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, as well as the Arizona Cardinals organization and Jeff’s current and former teammates and coaches who are mourning his life lost much too soon.”

One of Gladney’s former teammates at TCU and current Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jalen Reagor took to social media to share the news with a heartfelt tweet that read, “Lost my Brother, my best friend, my right hand man… ain’t too much more I can take man damn! R.I.P Jeff Gladney, brother watch over me please.”

Former defensive end L.J. Collier, who was teammates with Gladney at TCU, said, “Man aint no way man RIP jefe man i watched him come from the scout team to a team captain to a first round pick jeff was a good friend and great teammate imma miss you family RIP jeff.”

JJ Watt, Cardinals defensive end, said, “Horrifying news to hear this morning. Just tragic. Rest In Peace Jeff.” And Isaiah Simmons, Cardinals linebacker, tweeted, “Rest in paradise brotha.”
