Corey Davis Retires From the NFL

The Jets made a handful of moves this offseason to give new QB Aaron Rodgers as many quality pass-catching threats as possible heading into the 2023 NFL season. Unfortunately, the former first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans back in 2017 has reportedly decided to step away from the sport of football.

Davis finished his career with 3,879 receiving yards, 273 receptions, and 17 TDs.

While Davis was likely competing for the WR2 role behind Garrett Wilson, this gives Rodgers one fewer veteran WR to rely on for the 2023 season. In a year where New York is looking to go all-in and compete for a Super Bowl, this could prove costly.

Which WR Will Benefit the Most from Davis’ Departure?

The other Jets wide receivers on the roster, which include Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Mecole Hardman, and Jason Brownlee, will all aim to see more looks with Davis out of the picture.

The biggest beneficiary is likely to be Lazard, who has a lengthy history with Rodgers back in Green Bay and can fit in nicely as a possession WR to complement the explosive Wilson.

It is worth noting, however, that Lazard reportedly left practice with an injury on Wednesday. At the time of writing, we do not yet know the extent of the injury.

Depending on the injury news, Lazard’s current ADP of 132 overall in the 11th round may see a slight bump as we head into fantasy football draft season. He currently ranks 137 overall in the PFN consensus rankings.
