‘Don’t Want To See Him Go’ – Commanders Fans React to Franchise’s Plan of Trading $72 Million Star

The Washington Commanders have braced themselves to lose their star defensive tackle, Jonathan Allen. The franchise has permitted him to look for a trade.

Allen was drafted by Washington in 2017 as their first-round pick. The 30-year-old’s impending departure after eight seasons has fans in all sorts of mindsets, and they don’t shy away from sharing it.

Fans React as the Commanders Give the Green Signal to Jonathan Allen Exploring Trade Possibilities

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the news on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the recent developments of the two-time Pro Bowler’s case. Allen signed his rookie extension worth $72 million in 2021 and now has only a year left on the deal.

“The Commanders have had trade conversations centered around Pro Bowl DL Jonathan Allen, sources say. Washington plans to do right by the player & Allen’s camp is involved in helping him land at the right spot — either via trade or free agency. He has one year left at $15M,” Rapoport tweeted.

As soon as this news hit on X, the Commanders fans shared their opinions on the matter despite finding no common ground apart from thanking Allen for his services over the years.

“Yeah, he’s really been through everything here… it’s tough to imagine things without him. Gonna miss him for sure,” responded one fan.

“He been through it all here man don’t want to see him go,” tweeted a fan.

“Allen fell into our laps in the draft and was a really good player for a long time but it’s time. Good for both parties. Best of luck JA. You played your a** off when you didn’t need too. Thank you,” added a fan.

“Most fans are not surprised. All the best, Jon, and thank you,” replied a fan.

“We’ve seen this one before… Jets trade for him. He holds out. He gets more money for one year. He’s terrible. He leaves,” another fan added.

“He’s elite as a push rusher, just not as good as a run stuffer & Washington needs someone to fill that gap,” tweeted another fan.

Commanders General Manager, Adam Peters, has not yet made up his mind on the possibilities regarding Allen. He was asked about the reports of the DT being allowed to look for a trade at the NFL Scouting Combine, and he confirmed them.

“That is true,” he said. “It’s going into the last year of his [Allen’s] deal, and his agent, Blake Baratz, he’s a great agent, came to us. They wanted to explore their options. Everything is still on the table.”
