The hype surrounding the quarterback remains intense as the wild ride that is Shedeur Sanders and the 2025 NFL Draft continues. With draft day in Green Bay, Wis., right around the corner, it’s crunch time for prospects to leave final impressions on NFL teams. And for Sanders, this stretch might be even more critical than he expected.

Shedeur Sanders’ Former OC Not Shy About Praising Colorado QB
Sanders’ former offensive coordinator at Colorado, Pat Shurmur, joined SiriusXM NFL Radio and spoke highly of the 6-foot-2 quarterback’s future.

“He’s helped re-establish winning at two different programs,” Shurmur said. “He obviously was super productive for us as a passer… I think he’s got such a bright future. I think any team that chooses him is gonna be really happy with their choice.”
Shurmur stressed the importance of fit at the next level, especially for quarterbacks drafted early.
“You wanna go to a team that obviously loves ya, has a plan for ya,” he said. “There are as many quarterbacks that succeed when they’re picked high as the ones that don’t.”
He pointed to Bo Nix and the Broncos as an example of a rookie who benefited from a clear developmental plan under Sean Payton.
“There are other examples though where guys get thrown in too soon or into tough situations,” Shurmur added. “They’re probably as unique as they are to the player.”
Shurmur, a longtime NFL coach and former Giants head coach, didn’t hold back when summing up what separates Sanders.
“Shedeur is accurate, he’s tough, he’s a great leader,” he said. “I think he’s got what it takes to make it happen at the next level.”
Though they no longer work together day-to-day, Shurmur said he and Sanders still stay in touch, and he hopes for a long and successful career for the young quarterback.
Reese Decker of PFSN recently dropped a seven-round 2025 NFL mock draft with Sanders falling to the second round, going 33rd overall to the Cleveland Browns. While some believe the Browns could grab Sanders at No. 2, holding off could be a savvy move if they sense he might slip.
With only a few teams desperate for a first-round quarterback, Cleveland might pass on Sanders in Round 1 and circle back in Round 2. If they pull it off, it could mark a rare moment for the Browns where they get to have their cake and eat it, too.
