NFL analyst Colin Cowherd has come to Aaron Rodgers’ defense, saying the veteran quarterback should take even more time before deciding his next move. While many fans and media members have grown tired of the ongoing speculation, Cowherd thinks Rodgers’ best offer hasn’t even hit the table yet.

Colin Cowherd Tells Aaron Rodgers to Bide His Time
Rodgers recently met with the Pittsburgh Steelers, sparking hope that a deal could finally be close. After months of uncertainty, even the smallest update has stirred headlines. But Cowherd isn’t buying the idea that Pittsburgh is the right fit.
Speaking on his show, “The Herd,” Cowherd cast doubt on the Steelers’ situation, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
“I think Aaron’s too smart to look at Pittsburgh and go: ‘This is perfect,’” Cowherd said. “He flew there, to the Steelers, and he didn’t leave with a contract.” He even mocked what he called “The Great Pittsburgh Steelers,” using air quotes before continuing his criticism.
“The Steelers [are] fool’s gold. Tomlin can’t figure out the offense — it’s been seven years. Forget about it.”
Despite Cowherd’s skepticism, Pittsburgh remains the favorite to land Rodgers. The quarterback’s visit reportedly went well, though sources say no contract was ever expected at that meeting. The New York Giants have also been loosely linked, but there’s no deal in sight.
Cowherd Thinks Rodgers Is Waiting on San Francisco 49ers
Cowherd floated a different theory: Rodgers could be holding out for a shot with the San Francisco 49ers. While the team hasn’t been strongly connected to the Green Bay Packers legend, Cowherd believes the 49ers’ situation with Brock Purdy might open the door.
Contract talks have reportedly stalled, with Purdy entering the final year of his rookie deal. According to Cowherd, Purdy’s camp is pushing for a $59 million annual salary — a number the 49ers may not be willing to meet.
“I think Aaron Rodgers is sitting around for a couple of weeks. And I think he’s right, waiting on the Niners’ Brock Purdy,” Cowherd said. “I don’t think the Niners are gonna pay Brock Purdy $59 million a year. And that, according to his agent, is what he wants.”

Rodgers joining San Francisco would be a major shake-up. Kyle Shanahan has built his team around top-tier skill players and bargain contracts at quarterback. If Purdy’s salary demands force the team to choose, the 49ers might pivot — especially if someone like Rodgers waits in the wings.
San Francisco may be an option for the Green Bay Packers legend, but Pittsburgh is in the driver’s seat. Either way, many hope a resolution comes sooner rather than later. For now, though, the great Rodgers saga of 2025 rolls on.
