Chiefs vs. Broncos Prediction

The Chiefs fell out of first place in the AFC this past weekend with a tough loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Nevertheless, they still have a firm grasp on the AFC West division, with the Chargers being the next closest team with a 6-6 record.

Despite the offseason storylines of the AFC West being one of the best divisions we’ve potentially ever seen — due to several of the moves other teams made — the Chiefs are the only ones this season who have lived up to expectations.

Patrick Mahomes currently leads the entire league in both passing yards and passing touchdowns through 13 weeks, and the offense hasn’t skipped a beat, despite the departure of Tyreek Hill.

The key to winning this matchup against their divisional foe is to simply execute on offense. The Chiefs’ defense shouldn’t need to do much in this game, but the offense is going to have a tough task against the Broncos’ defense.

Denver comes into this game allowing just the third-fewest passing yards per game, which is an incredible testament to their talent and ability when you consider the entire context. They’ll make life tougher on Mahomes and Co. this week, but if Kansas City can hit a big play or two throughout the course of the game, they should easily win this game.

As for the other side of this game, not much has gone right for Denver this season. The heavy investment in Russell Wilson, plus a new coaching staff this offseason, simply has not worked. The Broncos are currently averaging just 13.8 points per game this season, which is easily the worst in the entire league.

The Houston Texans are currently averaging more points per game this year, and they don’t have anything close to a long-term answer at QB. Wilson has struggled immensely — to put it nicely — and the Broncos have a 3-9 record on the year to show for it.

Wilson has just eight passing touchdowns through 11 games this year. The offense has dealt with injuries, yes, but Wilson simply needs to do more for how much they’ve invested in him and their commitment to him long term.

The key for Denver to keep this game close is to somehow find a spark on offense. The defense is playing at a Super Bowl-caliber level, but they’re not getting any help from their offense. If the Broncos can simply move the chains, control the clock, and pick up first downs, this game could remain close.

However, based on everything we’ve seen up to this point, we shouldn’t feel confident in that taking place.
