There aren’t many departments to compare seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in, but Kelce recently revealed that there’s one thing that Brady is doing that he’d love to do himself. When appearing on the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast on Monday, June 30, Kelce spoke about the main thing he has his sights set on after he retires from the league.
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Shares Surprising Post-NFL Career Interest
After Brady received a massive 10-year, $375 million contract that bumped former NFL tight end Greg Olsen out of FOX Sports’ No.1 NFL game analyst role, Kelce seems set to join him. That’s not to say that Kelce would be on FOX’s broadcast team, as he could sign another contract with the Chiefs after the 2025 season, but it’s something he’s always had his sights set on.
“I want to see what calling a game feels like,” Kelce said. “I’ve always impersonated guys that call the games and stuff like that growing up, and I thought it would always be fun.”
Kelce knows he wouldn’t be doing it for the money; it keeps him busy and involved in football, which is his life. The market for former professional athletes to be on a pre-game panel, announce games or host a podcast is oversaturated. Still, with someone who has the popularity of Kelce, it would be hard for a significant network to say no.
In recent years, star former players such as Robert Griffin III, Jason Kelce and T.J. Watt have joined the booth in some capacity. With a new two-year contract keeping him in Kansas City, Kelce could consider joining his brother on ESPN, but that decision likely won’t come until after this season.
Olsen has touched on his relationship with Brady, which remains great even though he took over his spot without experience. FOX Sports went with popularity and name value over skill, though Brady did improve throughout the season. Every major sport seems to be finding former athletes to fill in as the analyst/color commentator over traditional broadcasters.
After his 2024 season, which featured career lows in receiving yards, yards per reception and touchdowns, Kelce is looking to turn it around in what could be his final year in the league. Three touchdowns aren’t enough if the Chiefs want to avenge their Super Bowl loss, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes again leaning on Kelce as a priority in this offense.
