Quarterback rankings have a tendency to bring out all of the feels. Former Super Bowl Champion Chase Daniel’s rankings garnered a massive response on social media, with most calling him out.

Chase Daniel QB Rankings Earn Negative Response
Daniel took to X to post his tiered quarterback rankings, saying “QB Tiers – Agree or not?” He went on to mention that these quarterbacks were not in order.

The longtime NFL pro got some spicy responses to his tiers. Right off the bat, someone jumped in to blast him for putting anyone on the same level as Patrick Mahomes, writing, “Mahomes is the only elite quarterback everybody else should be in the other tier with those guys.”
This take was apparently popular with other users, with one replying, “Fantastic work, my only note is Mahomes needs to be on a level alone until one of the other elite guys wins a title. Joe, Josh andLamar could all get there, just need a ring.”
Daniel notably has Jalen Hurts in his second tier, which elicited a more fiery response from one fan who wrote, “Hurts started 4 yrs. Been to two SBs. Won 1. MVP once. Out performed the baby goat twice on the biggest stage. You got him below a 1x SB loser, a dude that can’t get to the SB and a guy who chokes every time the lights get bright.”

In Daniel’s defense, this user is a known Eagles fan based on his page, and may have just a touch of bias.
Stats Tell the Story
Ben Rolfe of Pro Football Network has put a lot of thought into this, and his full 2024 Quarterback Ratings actually defend Daniel’s tier list fairly well.
Using Pro Football Network’s proprietary measure, Lamar Jackson was far and away the best quarterback in the NFL last season. His QB+ score of 99.8 in the regular season was a full seven points higher than our second-place quarterback, Jared Goff, at 92.8.
Goff, like most quarterbacks, struggles under pressure and thrives in a clean pocket — but that doesn’t take away from his clutch performance. He had a 45% third-down conversion rate and a 72.4% completion rate.
The reigning NFL MVP, Josh Allen, came in third at 91.7. He won the regular-season MVP but had an uncharacteristic falloff in the AFC Championship Game. Still, during the regular season, he was elite, ranking third in the league with a 0.24 EPA/DBA.
Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts came in fourth with an 88.7. Like many QBs, he shines behind a clean pocket, but as he showed in the Super Bowl, he can kill you with his legs — and he’s lucky to play behind a massive offensive line.
Joe Burrow ranked just behind him at 88.5. Sure, he’s got great receivers in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, but the truth is, Burrow had to carry the team last season.
Baker Mayfield had a huge year, proving that sometimes it takes a while for quarterbacks to develop. He posted an 87.9 rating while leading the Bucs to the playoffs and converting 60% of his third downs.
Brock Purdy deserves credit, too. He delivered an 87.6 while missing key offensive weapons throughout the season. Now he’s in line for a massive raise — not bad for Mr. Irrelevant.
Tua Tagovailoa may surprise some people, but he delivered an 85.6 — and that was while missing six games due to a concussion and hip injury. If he can stay healthy, he could be even better.
Though Mahomes ranked 10th on our rankings for last season, it’s impossible not to put him in the top tier. With three Super Bowl wins under his belt already, he’s already established himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.
