Keenan Allen, a free agent with 66 career touchdowns and six Pro Bowl selections, is one of the most intriguing names remaining in free agency. Known for his precise route running and reliable hands, Allen has been a key piece for both the Los Angeles Chargers and Chicago Bears throughout his career.
As he considers his next move, the Chargers, Green Bay Packers, and Detroit Lions have emerged as potential landing spots for the veteran wide receiver, according to PFSN’s Kyle Soppe. Here’s a closer look at why each team could be a fit — and what challenges they might face.

Los Angeles Chargers: A Familiar Home
The Chargers were Allen’s home from 2013 until last season when salary cap issues led to him signing with the Bears.
Now, a reunion with quarterback Justin Herbert could be in the cards, potentially reigniting one of the league’s most effective passing attacks. Allen’s chemistry with Herbert was a major part of the Chargers’ offensive success, along with his leadership in the locker room.
If the Chargers want him back, though, it might come at a cost. Last offseason’s cap problems were the reason Allen left, but with more flexibility this year, a short-term deal could be possible.
If it happens, Los Angeles could once again become a legitimate playoff contender. As noted by Soppe, “Allen’s ability to consistently win on third down and in the red zone makes him a critical piece for any team, but especially for the Chargers as they aim to maximize Herbert’s prime years.”
Green Bay Packers: A Veteran Presence for Jordan Love
The Packers have found their guy in Jordan Love, who continues to grow each season. With Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs developing as key weapons, Green Bay has a talented young receiver group — but it lacks a steady veteran voice.
As Soppe notes, “A true WR1 is no longer available; adding a pass catcher that can help sustain and finish off drives is all you can ask for at this point in the offseason.”
Allen could fill that role perfectly. His precise route running and knack for making contested catches would give Love a dependable target in tight spots.
While head coach Matt LaFleur leans toward a run-first approach, Allen’s skill set complements a team looking to boost its passing attack.
Detroit Lions: Missing Piece for a Rising Offense
The Lions have become one of the most exciting teams in the NFC, led by quarterback Jared Goff and a high-powered offense. While Amon-Ra St. Brown has emerged as a star, Detroit could use another proven pass catcher to elevate its air attack. Allen’s ability to work the middle of the field and move the chains on third down makes him an ideal fit.
The challenge for Detroit is timing. At 32, Allen is nearing the end of his career. The Lions must decide if his short-term impact lines up with their long-term plan.
But as Soppe writes, “”The Lions are in win-now mode and will be looking for some offensive stability with Ben Johnson taking his talents to Chicago.”
Allen hasn’t publicly narrowed down his preferred destinations, but the Chargers, Packers, and Lions all offer compelling opportunities. Whether he reunites with Herbert or joins a new team, Allen’s production and leadership make him one of the most valuable free agents still available. NFL fans will be watching closely to see where he lands.
Not in Detroit anyway…
It ain’t happening. The Lions want to get younger… especially at WR (per Dan Campbell yesterday), which they will address in the 2025 draft.
