Urban Meyer Clears Feelings on Ohio State, Declares SEC Better Than Big Ten After CFP Rankings

When former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer watches his old team play, he has a clear sense of what he’s seeing on the field. Meyer, who is an analyst for Fox’s “Big Ten Saturday” show, was closely watching, along with many others, as the initial College Football Playoff rankings were released.

In the first rankings, Ohio State claimed the No. 1 spot, looking down on many other top college football programs. Meyer shared his thoughts not only on Ohio State but also on the state of SEC and Big Ten football.

What Did Urban Meyer Say About CFP Rankings?

Meyer joined Mark Ingram II and Rob Stone on “The Triple Option College Football Playoff Ranking Reaction Show” and was asked if the College Football Playoff Committee got it right by placing Ohio State at No. 1.

“They did,” Meyer said. “We got to see Ohio State up close and personal twice, actually three times this year. Offensively, they’re so much improved from when they were at Texas. I love Indiana, I love their staff, I love their players, and we’ve seen them maybe once or twice this year, I can’t recall.

“Ohio State has better players at the end of the day,” Meyer said. “That’s not disrespect at IU at all. IU, just watching the NFL Draft, Ohio State, it’s going to be ridiculous again. So, at the end of the day, they got it right. Does that mean Ohio State will beat Indiana? I don’t know, man. IU does not make mistakes.

“The one team that is intriguing and playing good ball is A&M,” Meyer said. “So I can see, whenever I heard what robust means, it must be pretty intense. I get it.”

Meyer also noted that, in his opinion, “the SEC is better than the Big Ten.” He went on to discuss Michigan, Penn State, and Washington in relation to the CFP rankings.

Ingram, responding to Stone’s question about Ohio State’s placement atop the College Football Playoff rankings, said, “They did,” affirming that the committee got it right in its initial rankings.

After Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Georgia round out the top five teams. They were followed by Ole Miss, BYU, Texas Tech, Oregon, and Notre Dame. Teams ranked 11th through 15th were Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, and Louisville.

The final teams in the CFP rankings were Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Miami, USC, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Washington, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee. The College Football Playoff Committee will release a new set of rankings next Tuesday after the upcoming week’s slate of college football games concludes.
