‘He’s a Whole Unit Right Now’ — Future Notre Dame QB Noah Grubbs Bulks Up, Sharpens Pocket Game in Wild Offseason Grind

Notre Dame’s 2026 quarterback commit Noah Grubbs is turning heads with his dedication this offseason. The Lake Mary (Fla.) High School standout has focused on improving his footwork and pocket movement, knowing he’ll be working with a younger offensive line this fall. By refining his ability to escape pressure and extend plays, Grubbs is preparing himself for the next step in his football journey, both physically and mentally.

Noah Grubbs Steps Up: Notre Dame’s 2026 QB Commit Impresses with Offseason Work

After a standout sophomore season, Grubbs has taken his offseason training to another level. Now standing 6’4.5″ and weighing more than 200 pounds with just six percent body fat, he has committed to a demanding, multi-phase training routine. This approach has improved every part of his game.

“He’s looking the best he’s ever looked to me,” Grubbs’ longtime trainer Baylin Trujillo told Irish Sports Daily. “He is over 200 pounds, 6 percent body fat. He’s doing different things; he’s doing a stretch circuit, then he goes and works out, then he goes into the cryo lab, and then he’s doing some type of cardio and then strength training.”

Trujillo described a packed weekly schedule, with Grubbs working out three to four times per day, four to five days each week. Away from football, Grubbs keeps his mind sharp by playing golf every day. He learned to play left-handed by copying his older brother’s swing at the driving range.

“It’s his safe place,” Trujillo said. “When he golfs, he’s sharp. He stays relaxed. That’s his therapy.”

Along with his physical training, Grubbs and Trujillo have focused on pocket awareness. With a less experienced offensive line expected this fall, Grubbs is preparing to rely more on his footwork and ability to make plays when things break down.

“We’ve been really working on out-of-pocket movements, creating space with his feet in the pocket with lanes, throwing some people at him, just being very efficient with his feet and keeping his eyes downfield,” Trujillo said.

During the past two seasons, Grubbs rarely faced pressure behind one of Florida’s top high school offensive lines. That advantage may not last, so he is building the skills he’ll need to adapt at the next level.

“He’s going to have to rely a lot on that, which is going to give him extra tools in his toolbox,” Trujillo said. “You don’t want your whole life to be so comfortable in the pocket that the first sign of adversity in college, you don’t know how to react to it.”

As of April 2025, Grubbs is ranked No. 198 nationally and No. 14 among quarterbacks in the 2026 class by On3. He threw for 3,670 yards and 49 touchdowns as a sophomore, setting a school record. Grubbs completed 58.8 percent of his 354 passes, helping Lake Mary to a 10-2 finish and a regional semifinal appearance. He also averaged 305.8 yards per game and 17.6 yards per completion.
