LaNorris Sellers’ South Carolina Gamecocks ended their 2025 season with a devastating 28-14 loss to the Clemson Tigers on Saturday. The loss came after the Gamecocks’ 51-7 win over Coastal Carolina on Nov. 22 that snapped their five-game skid.
Despite that brief rebound, South Carolina still wrapped up one of the roughest seasons in program history, and questions continue to swirl around Sellers’ future with the team.

LaNorris Sellers Leaves South Carolina Future Uncertain After Clemson Defeat
In the postgame conference following the Clemson loss, he was asked whether he plans to remain at South Carolina next season.
“I mean, when the seasons come, I make a decision,” Sellers said. “When the time comes, I make a decision whatever’s best for me. I got a couple exams next week, so focus on them right now. You have December to make a decision. January. I mean, just whatever’s best.”

This has been Shane Beamer’s toughest season since taking over in Columbia. When he was questioned about Sellers’ future with the program, Beamer sidestepped, saying he wasn’t going to break down or predict next year’s roster.
In the Clemson loss, Sellers threw for a career-best 381 yards and two touchdowns, but also tossed two interceptions, including a pick-six that sealed the Tigers’ win late in the fourth quarter. He finished the season with 2,056 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions, along with 268 rushing yards and five rushing scores.
Those numbers are slightly down from last season, when he recorded 2,534 passing yards, 18 touchdown passes, and added 674 rushing yards with seven rushing touchdowns. Last season, he also led South Carolina to a 17-14 win at Clemson, winning the Palmetto Bowl. His 166 rushing yards in that game were the most by a Gamecock quarterback in a single game that season.
However, Sellers, ranked 56th on PFSN’s CFB QB metrics, pushed back on the idea that he took a step backward this year.
“I wouldn’t say regress,” Sellers said. “I mean, defenses get paid, too. They’re not going to let me do what I did to them in the previous year. They had a game plan for it. It’s going to be better.”
“We didn’t just roll over and take it. We stood in the fight, every game, pretty much. I think we were either tied or had a lead or something in the fourth quarter. Just one or two plays in the fourth quarter that we didn’t have, but we stood and fought.”
As a redshirt sophomore, Sellers is eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft and remains viewed as an early-round talent.
