Kansas vs. Texas Tech Head-to-Head Record

Texas Tech has thoroughly dominated this series, holding a commanding 23-2 lead. The Jayhawks did manage to pull off wins in 2001 and 2019, but the Red Raiders have taken care of business. Things have changed since Lance Leipold arrived, however, and this matchup takes on new meaning because of him.

Leipold is currently in his fifth season with the program and already ranks seventh in program history for wins. He’s established a culture of winning, but he knows there’s still plenty more work to do.

Joey McGuire took over Texas Tech in 2022, and a 23-16 record had fans restless about his future with the team. This year was always going to be a big year for him, and a massive boost in NIL added to the pressure. So far, McGuire appears to have his team locked in for a playoff run.

    Kansas vs. Texas Tech Prediction

The biggest difference in this game is, wait for it, Texas Tech’s defense. Imagine telling this fanbase that in 2016. The Red Raiders bolstered their defense with transfers, and the investments continue yielding huge dividends. David Bailey and the defensive line are a menace to opposing offenses, and the back end is loving the opportunities they see.

Don’t get it twisted, a good defense doesn’t mean that McGuire’s team is taking a step back offensively. They’re still an explosive group, and they also realized that they have depth at quarterback if Behren Morton decides he wants to be a dual threat again.

Kansas has a big test ahead, but they’re playing with confidence. The Jalon Daniels to Emmanuel Henderson connection gives the Red Raiders their toughest test yet, and Kansas needs them to thrive to stay in this game.

Taking care of the football is huge, too, something that Daniels has done well so far this year. The Jayhawks have shown that they can keep pace in high-scoring games, but will they be able to get enough stops? So far, that answer has been no.

Prediction: Texas Tech 55, Kansas 35
