On Saturday, Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. was arrested and charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of attempting to elude and speeding. The Crimson Tide defensive back was released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $1,500 bond an hour after his arrest.
Kirkpatrick was charged during the high-flying Crimson Tide’s bye week and just before the rivalry game against the LSU Tigers in Tuscaloosa in Week 11. The investigation was being led by the University of Alabama Police Department.

Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. Punished by Kalen DeBoer
During his weekly news conference, coach Kalen DeBoer announced Kirkpatrick’s punishment for his arrest.
“Unfortunately, with the information we have at this time, we talked to Dre and we need to indefinitely suspend him at this time,” DeBoer said. “He understands there are consequences that come with his actions.”

Kirkpatrick has tallied nine tackles, one for loss, one pass deflection, and a forced fumble in eight games played for the Crimson Tide this season. True freshman Ivan Taylor and redshirt sophomore Kameron Howard will get opportunities to earn snaps in Kirkpatrick’s stead until his suspension is lifted.
When Dre Kirkpatrick Made a Legacy Decision During Commitment
Kirkpatrick Jr. is a legacy recruit and is the son of former Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick Sr., who played under coach Nick Saban and won two national championships with the Crimson Tide between 2009 and 2011.
His father tallied three forced fumbles, three interceptions, one touchdown, and 91 tackles during his successful Alabama career, before being drafted No. 17 overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft.
After being offered a scholarship by his father’s alma mater, the defensive back took several trips to Tuscaloosa with his father, and he announced why he chose to join the Crimson Tide over other programs that had offered him.

“I had great relationships at Missouri,” said Kirkpatrick Jr. “I loved my Missouri family. It’s just a business decision to build my legacy and build my dad’s legacy. It was a hard choice, but I had to make it happen.
“I’m going to put my heart into the game, make sure I give my respect to the game, and give it all I got. The day I can’t give it all I got will be the day I won’t play anymore.”
The younger Kirkpatrick was a three-star prospect in the class of 2024, and he chose Alabama over the Missouri Tigers, Auburn Tigers, and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
