Tensions Escalate in Colorado as Deion Sanders Loses It At Coaches for Costly Mistakes

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is starting to feel the pressure, with the Buffaloes losing big against Arizona last weekend. They are currently 3-6 on the season and are projected to finish 4-7, according to PFSN’s College Football Playoff Meter.

After a visit from NFL legend Ray Lewis last weekend, the locker room atmosphere in Boulder has been brought into question. This came after former Buffalo player Chidozie Nwankwo visited earlier this month, labelling the players as ‘lazy.’

Deion Sanders Loses It At Coaches for Costly Mistakes

After some potential conflict with his players, Coach Prime is now getting into it with his coaching staff as well. The Buffaloes were destroyed by Arizona last weekend, losing 52-17. They have also given up more than 50 points in both of their most recent games.

“Offense, look at how they look. Tell me if they look different. Is this going to win for us? How we going to win like that? That is unbelievable, Coach you up there sitting and watching that crime being committed. That’s robbery right there.” Sanders ranted.

After criticizing the Offense coaches for their work in practice, the Buffaloes have continued to struggle on that side of the ball this season. Struggling to find an answer at Quarterback, according to PFSN’s Offensive Impact Rankings, they sit at 51st in the nation.

During the opening quarter against Arizona, quarterback Kaiden Salter completed 8 of 10 passes. On paper, this looks fine. However, these eight completions accounted for just 36 yards, as Colorado went down 0-17 in the opening 15 minutes.

Before the game against Arizona, according to PFSN’s CFB QB impact rankings, Salter was the 28th-best quarterback in the nation. With an impact score of 82.0, the Buffaloes quarterback had thrown for 1,193 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions this year.

“Look at your group coaches, is that all the effort we got on the pursuit drill? Are Ya’ll good with that? Are we really putting up with this as coaches?” Sanders continued to drill the coaches on Colorado’s training efforts.

When Sanders signed with Colorado, the Buffaloes were coming off a 1-11 season. In his first season in charge, Sanders coached them to a 4-8 record. After that, the head coach improved, going 9-4 in 2024 and reaching his first bowl game in Boulder.

With just three games remaining, they needed to win three of their next three encounters. Following their most recent loss, they must now win out to qualify for bowl contention, as things continue to deteriorate in Colorado.

“Y’all seniors are not going to get this back. Some of y’all aren’t going to the (NFL). The hard reality is going to hit you. You have to come with it. You can’t take this for granted, at all, even the scout team players.” During a recent visit, former Buffalo star Nwankwo also delved into the efforts of the scouting team.

“We just lost five yards. So we got a loss on the scout team. How many yards right there? Five-yard loss. If you do the same thing you’ve always done, then you’re gonna get the same thing you’ve always got.” Coach Prime continued in his rant at the scout team.

“If Colorado fired Deion Sanders without cause, he would be owed $33.6 million before Dec. 31, 2025.” according to USA Today Sports. Sanders signed a contract extension during the offseason that increased his salary to $54 million.

Currently, it’s most likely that Sanders will not be going anywhere after earning goodwill with the program over the last two years. However, tensions are continuing to flare in Boulder. And no amount of visits from former players and NFL legends is fixing it.
