Jalen Catalon to undergo surgery, confirmed out for the season

By Oliver Hodgkinson

Arkansas safety Jalen Catalon will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the 2022 college football season. Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman confirmed the news on Tuesday morning. The star safety suffered an injured shoulder for the second consecutive season, and will undergo reconstructive surgery that will sideline him for the rest of the year. The 5'10", 200 pounds safety has tallied five interceptions and nine pass breakups during his time with the Razorbacks. A thumping downhill threat, he's also 159 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. It is unclear at this point as to whether the highly rated defensive back will return for another season or declare for the 2023 NFL Draft.

TE Cameron Latu 'ready to go' against Texas in Week 2

By James Fragoza

Latu missed the season opener due to a knee injury, but head coach Nick Saban expects Alabama's TE1 to suit up against the Longhorns in Week 2: "He's doing well, 100%. Runs well, moves well. He practiced quite a bit last week, thought he needed another week to practice." After recording 26 receptions for 410 yards and eight touchdowns last season, the 6'5" and 244-pound TE is a breakout candidate for the 2022 season. Now fully healthy and ready to hit the field with Bryce Young and Co., expect Latu to command attention underneath and over the middle of the field.

RB Ramon Jefferson out for season with torn ACL

By James Fragoza

Unfortunately, the damage was severe, as Jefferson has reportedly suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the 2022 season. The former Sam Houston State standout will request a medical redshirt to retain his final year of eligibility, which if granted, will allow him to return for his seventh collegiate season.

Pat McAfee to join College Gameday full-time

By Oliver Hodgkinson

Former West Virginia kicker/punter turned media personality Pat McAfee will join ESPN's flagship football show, College Gameday, as a full-time member. The news was first reported by the New York Post, and later confirmed by McAfee on his personal social media account. McAfee's first appearance of the 2022 college football season will be for the Week 2 clash between Alabama and Texas in Austin. While he's found stardom as a media personality and NFL punter with the Indianapolis Colts, the roots of McAfee's success are very much in Morgantown. Averaging 43.7 yards per punt across a four year career, he also completed 73.3% of his field goals and 99.1% of over 200 extra point attempts while at West Virginia before being selected in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

By Cam Mellor

NC State Wolfpack tight end Trent Pennix will miss as least the next four to six weeks after suffering an arm injury in Week 1. Pennix injured himself during the close victory over ECU on Saturday. Largely seen as one of the top tight ends in the ACC, Pennix's lose is a big one for the Wolfpack who relied on his size and receiving prowess over the middle.

Anthony Grant runs for 189 yards, 2 TD

By Cam Mellor

The Nebraska Cornhuskers may have found a much-needed reliable playmaker on offense in the form of RB Anthony Grant. When hope was faltering against North Dakota, it was Grant who pulled Nebraska from the depths. He ran for 189 yards and two touchdowns but how he did so was impressive considering he was hit in the backfield on multiple carries but still churned out positive yardage.

Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba was clearly not healthy after a big hit early against Notre Dame. He was spotted on the stationary bike late in the first half and was later declared out for the rest of the contest. There isn't an extent of his injury known at this time but the OSU offense seemed limited without his services against the Irish.
