Cam Ward’s performance in Miami’s Pro Day was enough to prove why he is the top quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class. Ward has long been the favorite to get drafted as the No. 1 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans.
When asked about what separated him from the other top quarterback prospect, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Ward had a direct answer that doubled up as a pitch to all NFL teams, despite the Titans’ obvious interest in him.

Cam Ward’s Answer to Why He Is Different
Ward came prepared for the question, as he touched on what makes him so special that turned him from a lower-ranked high school recruit into the top QB prospect of the 2025 NFL Draft.
“I just think my mindset is what separates me,” Ward said in his interview post-Pro Day.
“Physical ability, God blessed me with a lot. I think no quarterback in the class can do what do on the field. But I just think what I can bring to a team, to locker room, to coaching staff is something no other quarterback can bring, because they didn’t have to come up the way I had to come up journey wise. So a lot of quarterbacks in this class were all high level recruits at some point in their career. But none of them had to start at the bottom like I did and I think that’s what separates me.”

The answer also indirectly called out Sanders since he was a four-star recruit while Ward was a zero-star recruit.
Going off the board before Sanders is just the result of how hard Ward has worked to improve his game throughout his career. In his final collegiate season at Miami, Ward tallied 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, all while setting single-season school records for completions (305) completion percentage (67.5).
In fact, the QB’s statistics are almost identical to Sanders’ in 20+ yards throws in 2024:
- Ward: 34-for-75, 1,148 yards, 14-0 TD-INT.
- Sanders: 34-for-75, 1,184 yards, 14-1 TD-INT
It will be interesting to see how well Sanders does on Colorado’s Pro Day as compared to Ward.
Ward even wished him well for it saying, “Yeah, I hope you do good, but I don’t know if it’s gonna be bad in mind. He is going to do some good stuff, I’ve seen his script.”
