An unexpected injury to quarterback Derek Carr recently ended his NFL career, forcing the New Orleans Saints to select Tyler Shough in the 2025 NFL Draft. While the 40th overall selection has elite upside, jumping immediately into the starting role may not be the plan.
Saints Superstar Pleads for Veteran QB and Former Teammate to Return
Saints defensive end Cam Jordan is set to enter year 15 in the NFL. The loyal leader of the defensive unit understands the team’s unexpected quarterback situation and has an idea that he believes “makes sense.”
Jordan joined Kay Adams on her “Up & Adams” show, where the 35-year-old expresses his master plan to recruit the club’s next gunslinger.
Jameis Winston please report back to the Saints.

“I’m gonna recruit a veteran quarterback properly, when the time is right,” said Jordan. “That’s probably gonna take all the cap space we have.”
Adams then asks the eight-time Pro Bowler who he finds interesting still on the market. The podcast host jokingly suggests that long-time Atlanta Falcon Matt Ryan come out of retirement. The longtime Saint responds with both humor and honesty.
“No, absolutely not, that’s sacrilegious,” said Jordan. “Not saying that he’s not a great man or quarterback, but, would never. Kirko Cousins in that same realm, guess who he plays for now? Had he been on any other team, we could possibly say yes. But coming from that team… that ‘Cantlanta,’ yeah can’t do it.”
The 2011 first-round selection is forever indebted to the team from New Orleans. Adamant to pick a current or former Falcon as an option, Jordan instead suggests a former Saint.
“Jameis [Winston]? If I’m being non-biased, Jameis,” said Jordan. “There’s Russell over there [New York Giants], they got Jaxson Dart, my guy Jameis—come on down. It makes a lot of sense—Joe Flacco for a couple of weeks. I’m going all in—Jameis as a veteran quarterback, come on over.”
Winston and Saints’ Prior Relationship: Something Unfinished?
Winston played for the Saints from 2020 to 2023. In 2020, he played just four contests, with Drew Brees finishing off the last season of his iconic career. Winston’s second season gave him the opportunity to start in Louisiana. However, he played in seven games and underwhelmed overall.
The rollercoaster journey continued in 2022 when Andy Dalton took over the starting spot. This left Winston to play in a career low three games that season. Carr earned the spot in 2023, starting every game that year, although Winston did step into seven games as the team’s backup.
Entering 2025, Winston looks to be the No. 3 man on New York’s QB depth chart. With Wilson likely to start and Dart looking to get reps early in his career, Winston’s opportunities appear limited.
Could a reunion in New Orleans be ceremonial for both parties?
