The Cleveland Browns are one of the most intriguing teams heading into the 2025 season. With a legitimate quarterback competition underway, the battle between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders will be an interesting wrinkle to monitor.
However, beyond the quarterback spot, the rest of the roster is pretty solid for the Browns. Just two years removed from a playoff appearance, the rest of the pieces are largely similar, with superstar Myles Garrett at the helm. Still, one analyst believes some additional help for the quarterbacks might be a smart choice for the Browns.
Cleveland Browns Going Weapon Shopping for Their Quarterback?
Last year, this team had the worst offense in the league, per PFSN’s Offense+ metric, and it wasn’t particularly close. While their skill position group wasn’t elite, it was far from terrible, especially with the numbers they put up.
A large portion of the blame, instead, fell on their quarterbacks, with Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston manning the spot, with some weeks of Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Bailey Zappe also sprinkled in.
This year, though, the only two consistent names for the roster are Jerry Jeudy and David Njoku. After tallying 1,229 and 505 yards, respectively, last season, the two should be able to soldier a better offense.
Add in the running back duo of Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson, alongside the potential superstar addition of Harold Fannin Jr., and the offense has a lot of upside. But Brandon Austin of PFSN believes Cleveland could do better.
In his list of remaining free agents best suited for each team, he believes wide receiver Gabe Davis might be a smart pickup for the Browns. With no major additions to the unit (Diontae Johnson reviving his career aside), Austin believes Davis might be a smart, cheap addition to the roster.

A five-year veteran, he spent the first four years of his career with the Buffalo Bills, putting up solid numbers overall and recording 27 touchdowns to his name. Last year, he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars but was only available for 10 games before a torn meniscus put him out for the year.
In that time, he added 239 yards and two touchdowns to his career tally. “Davis’ health could be a concern, but it could also mean the Browns may be able to get him at a more affordable price tag than previously imagined. He has good speed and proved to be a strong vertical threat during his time with the Bills.”
Austin isn’t buying him as a world-beater, especially for the Browns with their uncertainty at the QB position. But, as someone who can improve the literal worst unit in football last year, Davis might be a smart choice for Cleveland.
