North Carolina Head Coach Bill Belichick Makes Offer to Son of Former Patriots RB

After taking over as the North Carolina Tar Heels head coach, Bill Belichick has hired both of his sons, former linebacker Jamie Collins, and Michael Lombardi is the team’s general manager. And now, Belichick has made an offer to the son of three-time Super Bowl champion LeGarrette Blount, who won two of those under him with the New England Patriots.

Bill Belichick Offers Student Scholarship to Son of LeGarrette Blount

Belichick led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles in his 23-year tenure, and as he looks to achieve similar results with the Tar Heels, he has offered a full scholarship to LeGarrette Blount Jr., the son of the former New England running back.

The younger Blount is a wide receiver and defensive back in the class of 2028 who currently plays at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona.

He announced the news on Wednesday, Feb.12, and said he was “blessed” to receive a scholarship offer from Belichick’s program, his second Division 1 offer.

“Blessed to receive my 2nd D1 offer from North Carolina!!” he wrote on X.

The senior Blount was excited about the news and took pride in his son’s achievement.

Blount Sr. started his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans in 2010, but he didn’t make the team and was eventually signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played for New England in 2013 and again from 2014-16, winning two Super Bowl titles with Belichick at the helm.

The former Patriots head coach is looking to instill a pro-team culture in North Carolina, and per Lombardi, they consider themselves the NFL’s 33rd team.

“Everything here is predicated on building a pro team,” Lombardi told reporters about his new role via Brendan Marks of The Athletic. “We consider ourselves the 33rd team because everybody involved with our program has had some form or aspect in pro football.”

The Tar Heels hired Belichick after a disappointing 2024 season saw them let go of former head coach Mack Brown.

The 72-year-old still has a lot of work to do in the transfer portal and in the recruiting world to make North Carolina the New England of the 2000s, but he’s up for the challenge.
