NFL analyst Colin Cowherd has caused a stir with his list of seven untradeable stars of American sports. Cowherd was presenting his own show, “The Herd,” and admitted that many would disagree with his take.
The list covered stars from basketball, baseball, and football, with three NFL stars making the list.
Colin Cowherd Believes Seven Players in American Sports are Completely Untradeable
Cowherd is known for his bold takes, often designed to provoke passionate reactions from viewers. His latest take has done precisely that, with followers queueing up in the comments section to mock the analyst.
Caitlin Clark topped the list, having sparked an explosion of interest in the WNBA since being drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2024. Clark was followed, in order, by Patrick Mahomes and Shohei Ohtani, who are widely believed to be the most talented players of all time in football and baseball, respectively.
Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen were next on the list, with Cowherd saying: “Denver’s a football town. The fact that they have the best basketball player in the world, can’t trade him.”
“I think he’s our next superstar in the NFL.”

Two-time American League MVP Aaron Judge was sixth on the list. Cowherd claimed that the Yankees would turn down Ohtani in a straight swap for their star player, citing Judge’s popularity as a major factor, beyond his ability on the field.
Cowherd Makes Bold Claim With the Final Player On His List
The seventh and final player on Cowherd’s untradeable list has proven a surprise to many, which the analyst warned it might be. With Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Jalen Hurts still yet to be named, it was instead Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels who made the cut.
“You’re gonna think this is crazy,” he teased, “I think it’s Jayden Daniels. I think he’s our next superstar in the NFL. I thought last year was the greatest rookie season, by far.”
Cowherd explained his take, suggesting that Daniels’ effect on Washington could rival Mahomes’ on the Kansas City Chiefs.
“There is an argument that over the next 20 years, they’re gonna become Kansas City, in the NFC. That kid was bizarrely good as a rookie; you cannot trade him.”
Jackson, Burrow, Steph Curry, and Connor McDavid were all strongly campaigned for in the comments section online, while one user reacted with “#7 lol.” Daniels makes sense, though, given the impact he has had on the capital city since being drafted. In just one season, Daniels has led a previously downtrodden fanbase to within one win of a first Super Bowl appearance in 33 years.
The argument for Daniels doesn’t exclude the players that missed out, however, suggesting that the list may, in fact, be longer than Cowherd initially claimed.
