The Tennessee Titans are in desperate need of improvement in their quarterback room. Last season, they shared snaps between Will Levis and Mason Rudolph, neither of whom have been viable options as the lead man. With the first overall pick in the draft, they have the chance to find their QB of the future.
But according to reputed NFL analyst and draft specialist Warren Sharp, the Titans will elect to go a different route with their selection.

Tennessee Titans Avoid QB With No. 1 Overall Pick in Mock
According to Sharp, neither of the two quarterbacks who are projecting as first-round selections have franchise star upside. For him, the chances of either player working out in the long run are slim.
He writes, “Neither Shedeur Sanders nor Cam Ward are the types of talents who typically go No. 1 overall. Taking either would be a move of pure desperation. That doesn’t mean it can’t work out, but the risk is far greater than with the average quarterback who goes first overall.”
As a result, he thinks a Titans team that needs an edge rusher to shore up its defense will go with Abdul Carter from Penn State, who he describes as, “the only prospect in this class with the elite ceiling, proven production, and positional value of a typical No. 1 overall pick.”

It isn’t a surprise to us here at PFSN. Our latest mock draft also has the Titans going with Carter with the first overall pick — Brentley Weissman is all aboard the hype train for Carter as well.
“Carter is an explosive pass rusher who plays with the type of tenacity and toughness that this organization needs to turn the corner. He is still developing as a pass rusher, but his physical attributes are special and his best football is most definitely still ahead of him.”
But the reasoning for Tennessee’s decision is rather straightforward. “The Titans will certainly think long and hard about taking a quarterback with the first overall pick, but first-year GM Mike Borgonzi opts to select the best overall player in the class in Abdul Carter.”
They finished the season ranked 22nd on PFSN’s Defense+ metric, but through the course of the year, that number could have been better, if not for a woefully bad offense. But, with improvement necessary and obvious, Carter could fill that void for the Titans perfectly.
