Jalen Milroe is widely regarded as the most athletic quarterback in this year’s draft class — and that trait alone could be enough for a team to take a chance on him earlier than expected, trusting in his long-term potential despite some passing concerns.
Last week, Browns general manager Andrew Berry shared a bold opinion, saying he believes Milroe might be the only quarterback in the NFL who’s actually faster than Lamar Jackson, a player known for being one of the league’s quickest and most elusive signal-callers.
The Alabama quarterback responded to Berry’s comment, and his answer highlighted one of his defining traits heading into the NFL: a strong personality and supreme confidence in himself.
Jalen Milroe Agrees With Statement That He Is Faster Than Lamar Jackson
During an appearance on the “Up & Adams” show, host Kay Adams brought up the bold claim made by Browns GM Andrew Berry — that Jalen Milroe might be the only quarterback in the NFL who could beat Lamar Jackson in a foot race.
Milroe didn’t hesitate. With full confidence, he responded: “I agree.”

While Milroe’s confidence is essential for his growth in the NFL, he might be off on this one. Just like Lamar Jackson, he didn’t run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine — but during their respective Pro Days, unofficial times were recorded, and the results tell a different story.
Lamar Jackson clocked a blazing 4.34 seconds in the 40-yard dash at his Louisville Pro Day. Jalen Milroe, on the other hand, had mixed results — some scouts timed him around 4.50, with his best unofficial time coming in at 4.37. Impressive, but still just shy of Lamar’s mark.
However, it’s worth noting that an athlete’s top speed can vary over time — and Lamar Jackson ran his Pro Day 40 back in 2018, while preparing for the NFL Draft. With a younger frame and elite athleticism, Milroe might just have what it takes to surprise the two-time MVP and NFL’s all-time rushing leader among quarterbacks. Still, that race may never actually happen.
As Jalen Milroe prepares for the NFL Draft, his athletic traits stand out as his biggest strengths in the eyes of scouts. With a rocket arm and the highest dual-threat upside in the class, Milroe presents himself as an intriguing Day 2 option. While he still has clear flaws as a passer, he has the raw tools to develop into a difference-maker in the right situation.
The latest 7-round mock draft from PFSN went a step further, projecting Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe to be selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 25 overall, following a trade-down with the Houston Texans. If that scenario plays out, Milroe could land in a system that recently worked with Justin Fields — a prototype that closely resembles what Milroe could develop into at the NFL level.
