AJ Haulcy is a safety from LSU who is ranked No. 37 on my NFL Draft Top 100 Big Board. This comprehensive scouting report analyzes Haulcy’s draft potential, current mock draft trends, and where he ranks among the top prospects.

AJ Haulcy’s NFL Draft Potential
AJ Haulcy snagged five interceptions and eight pass breakups with Houston in 2024, before transferring to LSU. With the Tigers, he’s retained his high level of play, while doing so on a bigger stage. The 6’0″, 215-pound safety has an enthralling blend of coverage mobility, transition fluidity, reaction speed, ball skills, and sturdiness in support.
He might not have elite redirection freedom at his weight, but he can sink and redirect well enough, and he’s disciplined managing route concepts overtop and quick to break when he keys in on quarterback intent. Just as quick as he can nab interceptions, Haulcy can also lay the boom with hard hits coming downhill. He shouldn’t be used in man coverage often, and he can still shore up his tackling technique, but a starting NFL role is in his future.
CFB Week 9 Update
Amidst a poor overall showing for LSU, AJ Haulcy stood out as a lone bright spot. The senior safety snagged a clutch red-zone interception late in the first half when LSU was still within one score, and stayed keyed-in in support even as the game grew out of reach.
Haulcy’s INT was a pristine example of his route recognition and anticipation. He diagnosed the tight end streaking into the back of the end zone on a double move, and lurked into the window to undercut the throw. Haulcy’s football IQ and zone intelligence is a major strength, and it’s one component of his starter-caliber profile.
CFB Week 10 Update
LSU was on a bye in Week 10, but the Tigers will return to action in Week 11 against the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama will test LSU on both sides of the ball. On offense, the Crimson Tide boast a diverse core led by Ty Simpson, Ryan Williams, and Germie Bernard, as well as a stalwart offensive line, and on defense, Alabama is stout up front, with fast-flowing defenders at all three levels.
CFB Week 11 Update
Haulcy had a solid day overall against a venerable Alabama passing attack, but did get caught with his hips tied up a couple times in zone coverage – most notably as the post safety against a crosser off play-action, where Germie Bernard spliced across-face and took in a bullet from Ty Simpson.
Haulcy did almost get his get-back on an in-breaking route later in the game, jumping the concept for a hard hit and a deflection. There are moments where his non-elite hip fluidity and correction shows up, but Haulcy’s intelligence, closing speed, and play strength more than compensates within his role.
CFB Week 12 Update
Haulcy didn’t get his hands on any passes against Taylen Green and the Arkansas Razorbacks in Week 12, but he was active coming downhill in support all day. Racking up eight total tackles, Haulcy showcased his quick trigger, range, and willing physicality on early downs, and he did his job in coverage, managing space and route relationships with the composure and vision we’ve come to expect.
