Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown is once again the subject of trade rumors as the NFL deadline nears. Those rumors have been fueled by the fact that this is a far quieter season for Brown than the Super Bowl-winning Eagles are used to.
However, does that mean the City of Brotherly Love is looking to move on from Brown? One NFL insider weighs in on the validity of those rumors.
One NFL Insider Weighs In on the A.J. Brown Trade Rumors
Despite the whispers, it appears there is no truth to the idea that Brown could be leaving Philadelphia anytime soon. Team leaders and league insiders have publicly said that the Eagles have no plans to trade their All-Pro receiver.
NFL insider Jay Glazer talked about the speculation during “FOX NFL Sunday,” confirming that several teams have contacted the Eagles about Brown’s availability. According to Glazer, the Eagles’ response was:
“A couple teams have asked about him, that is a hard no for A.J. Brown.”

Glazer reported that Philadelphia has completely shut down any trade talks before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline. Even though a few teams were curious, the Eagles are not interested in moving Brown.
Brown has missed the last two weeks due to a hamstring injury, including Week 8‘s win over the New York Giants before their bye. Before the injury, Brown played in seven games, recording 29 catches for 395 yards and three touchdowns, numbers that are lower than his usual All-Pro production. His PFSN Impact Score is 76.5 with a grade of C. He ranks 34th among all WRs this season.
His teammate DeVonta Smith leads the team with 55 targets, 588 yards, and two touchdowns.
What the Philadelphia Eagles’ Leadership Said
Philadelphia Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie spoke about Brown and the rumors surrounding his future. When asked about possibly trading Brown, Lurie said:
“We do what’s best for the team. We don’t even consider it seriously unless it’s best for the Eagles. We will always do what gives us the best chance of winning big. Everything else is secondary.”
Even if the Eagles wanted to explore the trade, the financial cost would be big. Moving Brown before the 2026 season would create a $43.5 million dead cap hit, compared to his current $23.4 million cap figure. The only realistic way to limit that penalty would be through a post-June 1st trade, which spreads the cap hit over two years. However, there is no sign that the team is considering that option.
While Brown appears completely off-limits, Jay Glazer noted that the Eagles are still looking for ways to improve elsewhere. Philadelphia is reportedly exploring pass-rush help, with interest in players like Miami Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, among other potential players.
