Fantasy Football: Breaking down the defenses in the AFC North (AFC North and Goal Podcast)

AFC North defense

The AFC North has been known for defense for quite some time. The Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers have been the top two in defense for the AFC North. Recently, the Cleveland Browns have thrown themselves into the ring. The Browns, on paper, have a dominant defense. It all starts on the defensive line, with Myles Garrett, Sheldon Richardson, Oliver Vernon, and Larry Ogunjobi the Browns will get after the quarterback.

The Ravens lost a lot of fire on defense this offseason and will rely on players to step up to the challenge this season. They did pick up Earl Thomas which should help their defensive backs. Adding Thomas with, Jimmy Smith, Marlon Humphery and Tavon Young should lead an excellent defensive back unit when healthy.

The Steelers made a huge splash in the draft by trading up for Devin Bush. If all of the stars align for the Steelers and Bush, they could be a dynamic AFC North duo. He joins an outstanding Steelers defense that could, to the hope of Steelers fans, bring them to the playoffs.

The Bengals are the weakest part of the AFC North defense. The only pure core of their defense is their defensive tackle, Geno Atkins. Despite that, the Bengals are struggling on defense. It will be telling to see if the Bengals can turn into a dominant defense in the upcoming future.
