Longtime ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter will reportedly be trying his hand at something new: serving as an on-course reporter for the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship as he covers Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley.

ESPN’s Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter Makes PGA Tour Broadcast Debut
According to Josh Carpenter of “Sports Business Journal,” Schefter will be an on-course golf reporter.

In the picture Carpenter provided, it reads, “ESPN Senior NFL Insider Schefter debuts as on-course reporter covering McIlroy/Bradley on Thursday.”
Schefter will work as a commentator on ESPN+ for the 2025 Travelers Championship. His coverage, as mentioned, includes McIlroy and Bradley’s group, which tees off at 10:30 a.m. ET. It’s worth noting that the 2025 Travelers Championship is taking place at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. That’s about 20 to 25 minutes away from ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol.
Schefter brought up the news on Tuesday, June 17 on the radio show “Unsportsmanlike,” broadcasted on ESPN Radio, ESPN2 and ESPNU.
“I’ve been assigned a PGA Tour Live shirt that they got for me, and I guess the pants and shoes are my own,” Schefter said. “It’s supposed to be very hot on Thursday. I don’t know if I can get a clothing deal here.”

Schefter has primarily covered the NFL for nearly 16 years at ESPN. Following NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski’s retirement, rumors floated around about Schefter potentially working as an “ultimate insider,” but nothing has been set in stone despite mutual interest between ESPN and Schefter.
Even before Woj’s retirement, though, Schefter broke other NBA news in addition to filling in on some NBA telecasts as a sideline reporter. Some of it would be considered rather inconsequential.
For example, back in August 2022, he broke the news that former Los Angeles Clippers lottery pick Jerome Robinson had signed a one-year deal to attend training camp with the Golden State Warriors.
With the NFL preseason nearing, don’t be surprised if Schefter has to do a bit of multitasking. With contract talks looming for several players, NFL news can break at any time. Notable names include Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt, Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin and Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Schefter, according to PFSN’s Terrance Biggs, believes Parsons will top Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett’s 4-year, $160 million contract. There’s also the Cleveland Browns quarterback carousel, featuring Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.
In January, Schefter told “The Marchand Sports Media” podcast that he wants to do more than his current role.
“Interact with people outside your normal world,” Schefter said. “It’s refreshing. I love stepping out of this zone, on the rare occasion that I can. I like being let out of the cage. And ESPN doesn’t let me out of the cage very often.”
Now, Schefter will get to do just that this Thursday.
