The future of Aaron Rodgers remains one of the biggest talking points in the NFL. The veteran quarterback is currently an unrestricted free agent and has yet to sign with a team. The New York Jets released him at the beginning of the offseason following two seasons with the team.
Rodgers was coming off an Achilles tear but managed to play in all 17 games last season. He completed 368 of 584 passes (63.0%) for 3,897 yards, tossing 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. While those stats may look solid on paper, the Jets still finished 5-12, and his performance was part of the reason why. Rodgers earned a C- grade in PFSN’s QB+ metrics.
Now that he’s available, speculation has swirled about where he might land. One of the most rumored destinations has been the Pittsburgh Steelers. But as of now, that move hasn’t materialized, and some around the league are beginning to doubt it ever will.
Aaron Rodgers Not Landing With the Pittsburgh Steelers?
Rodgers’ ongoing free agency has become one of the NFL’s top storylines. After the 2025 NFL Draft, the Steelers selected Ohio State quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round. That move may suggest the team is shifting its focus toward developing younger talent at the position.
Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert weighed in on the situation. In a pair of tweets, Benkert said he doesn’t believe Rodgers will land in Pittsburgh.
“I don’t think Aaron Rodgers is going to Pittsburgh. If I was him, I’d wait to see what injuries happen throughout the early part of the season.”

He’s not the only one with doubts. Steelers minority owner Thomas Tull was asked about the Rodgers rumors during an appearance on CNBC. Instead of addressing the idea directly, he offered a vague response.
“I’m here to talk about AI, and that’s a more complex issue than artificial intelligence.”
That quote doesn’t exactly sound like someone who expects a major move is on the way.
Adding more fuel to the fire, the Steelers traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday for future draft picks. While some view the move as part of a rebuild, others think it could be a strategic way for Rodgers to help bring in some of his guys — like Jets wideout Allen Lazard.
As the offseason rolls on, all eyes remain on Rodgers. Will he suit up in 2025? Or have we seen the last of one of the NFL’s most iconic quarterbacks?
