The Sacramento Kings have a new front office led by general manager Scott Perry, who was brought in April 2025. Perry hasn’t been quite active in the free agency so far, but addressed a key need at point guard by agreeing to a three-year, $45 million deal with free agent Dennis Schroder.
That move could have positive implications for Domantas Sabonis, who was rumored to be on the move this offseason. One NBA insider recently weighed in on Sabonis’ future with the Kings and believes he is likely to remain in Sacramento next season.

NBA Insider Suggests Domantas Sabonis Likely To Stay With Kings
Sabonis has been a key figure in this Kings lineup since being traded to the organization from the Indiana Pacers on February 8, 2022. The 6-foot-10-inch forward-center is a three-time All-Star and is considered one of the NBA’s elite rebounders.
With the arrival of a new general manager this offseason, there were speculations that Sabonis could be traded. He was linked to quite a few teams as well, including a return to the Pacers, but Sam Amick of The Athletic revealed the 29-year-old has been patient with the front office so far, and the Schroder move could convince him to stay.
“So far, he’s been signaling patience and has had good conversations with the new front office. And the Schröder move, to me, is an interesting one in the context of Domas,” Amick said on Sactown Sports 1140. “Because in the short term, I could see Domas saying, ‘Listen, I just want to feel like I have a chance every night.’ And now, you’ve got me a point guard.”
“But they still have to figure it out. The fact is, you have so many guys who like to score the ball, and Domas wants to get back to the higher usage that he had a couple years ago.”
Sabonis put up big numbers last season, averaging 19.1 points, 13.9 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.4 blocks. He was also highly efficient, with 59.0% field goal shooting, 41.7% from three-point range, and 75.4% from the free-throw line.
However, he isn’t content with his performances and wants to play for a title. The addition of Schroder does increase their chances of fielding a competitive team, but they are still way behind in the loaded Western Conference.
Amick earlier reported that Sabonis had “had positive early discussions with Perry regarding the Kings’ aspirations for this summer.” While those aspirations don’t seem to be fulfilled yet, he is being patient.
In terms of financial security, Sabonis appears to be set. He signed a five-year contract with the Kings for $217 million back in 2023. As a result, he is owed $140.3 million over the next three years of his career.
