‘Hornets Need a PG’ – NBA Fans Troll Chris Paul’s Wish To Be a Starter in 21st Pro Season

Chris Paul is targeted to start for his 21st NBA season, but fans question if he’s still up to the task at age 40.

Chris Paul, the veteran point guard, is reportedly set for a 21st NBA season, aiming for a starting role at age 40 despite some skepticism from fans.

Paul, a 12-time All-Star whose injury history is well known, played all 82 games for the rebuilding San Antonio Spurs last season, averaging a career-low 8.8 points per game but still providing valuable leadership and 7.4 assists per contest.

His ability to mentor young players and facilitate the offense has drawn interest from several playoff hopefuls as free agency heats up.

NBA Fans Blast Paul for Targeting Starting Gig at Age 40

As free agency approached, NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Paul’s desire to “play closer to his home base in Los Angeles” for his 21st season. Stein later revealed that the 40-year-old guard turned down offers from the Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets in pursuit of a team closer to home.

Now, “The Point God” is reportedly considering reunions with the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns, with plans to start next season. The Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds noted that Paul wants to be a starter, which is part of the reason he has yet to make a decision, and that the Clippers remain hopeful he will choose them.

As Reynolds’ update spread, fans took to social media to question whether Paul is still capable of handling a starting role at his age. Many pointed out that while he can contribute to winning, they do not see him as a full-time starter at this stage of his career.

One fan sarcastically commented, “Bro your 50”

Some others reminded Paul of his performance in the recent season.

More comments trolling Paul followed.

Meanwhile, some fans suggested that Paul would be better suited to join a team at the bottom of the standings if he wants to maintain a significant role. Others pointed out that certain clubs, such as the Hornets, could use a veteran point guard.

Paul started in all 82 of his appearances with San Antonio last season. The year before, he was mostly a reserve with the Golden State Warriors, backing up Stephen Curry. If he rejoins the Clippers or Suns as a starter, he would play alongside James Harden or Devin Booker, respectively. Paul has enjoyed playoff success with both players, reaching deep into the postseason with Harden in Houston in 2018 and with Booker in Phoenix in 2021.
