Heat Trade Rumors: Insider Reveals Miami Is Targeting 3 Stars, Including an NBA Champion Who Fills Glaring Need

A major roster shakeup is underway for the Miami Heat, with Kuminga, DeRozan, and Collins all linked as potential targets as free agency continues. What’s next for Miami?

The Miami Heat face a major offseason challenge after losing two key pieces from their recent NBA Finals runs. On Wednesday, Duncan Robinson, a sharpshooter crucial to their 2020 and 2023 Finals appearances, agreed to join the Detroit Pistons.

Earlier, before the February trade deadline, the Heat parted ways with star forward Jimmy Butler, who now plays for the Golden State Warriors. With these departures, Miami is now focused on rebuilding its roster around Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo, but it will likely need more talent to stay competitive in the tough Eastern Conference.

Miami Heat Rumors: DeRozan, Collins, and Kuminga on the Wishlist

On Wednesday, senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer gave his rundown on the Heat’s plans for this offseason. In his story for The Stein Line, he wrote, “The Miami Heat are an oft-mentioned potential Kuminga suitor and do have a clear need on the wing between All-Star guard Tyler Herro and All-Defensive Team big man Bam Adebayo.”

Fischer noted how Kuminga would be a “younger, higher-upside target” for Miami, but added that the Heat may find it challenging to sign him because Kuminga reportedly has been seeking a contract that would pay him $30 million annually. The power forward reportedly declined a $150 million, five-year contract extension offer from the Golden State Warriors in October 2024.

Fischer also spoke about DeRozan and Collins as potential Miami targets and said, “The Heat have also been linked to Kings scoring guard DeMar DeRozan by various league sources and likewise mentioned as a potential destination for Utah’s very available John Collins.”

In an injury-riddled 2024-25 season, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while coming off the bench in 37 of the 47 games he played. He continued to show the same level of performance in the playoffs and averaged 15.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in eight games.

The Heat’s other two targets, DeRozan and Collins, are under contract with the Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz, respectively. DeRozan’s deal, which he signed last offseason, has two more seasons left, while Collins exercised his $26.58 million player option last week.

A six-time All-Star, DeRozan continued to show his scoring prowess last season and averaged 22.2 points, while adding 4.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. Collins, who the Atlanta Hawks selected with the 19th pick in the 2017 NBA draft, shows a strong presence on the boards and averaged 19.0 points and 8.2 rebounds for the Jazz last season.

So far, Miami has made only one significant move in this year’s free agency when they agreed to sign restricted free agent point guard Davion Mitchell to a two-year, $24 million deal.
