The free agency period got underway on June 30, and while players can’t officially sign with teams until July 6, some big contracts have already been agreed to. One of those deals is between the Toronto Raptors and Jakob Poeltl. The Austrian center signed a four-year, $104 million extension to keep him in Ontario through the 2029-30 season.
Since breaking into the league in 2016 as a member of Dwane Casey’s Raptors team, Poeltl has quietly gone about his business. As he prepares for his 10th season in the league, the 29-year-old has amassed a small fortune.

Poeltl’s productivity and consistency over the last three seasons have made him a valuable asset to the organization. The Austrian big man was rewarded for his hard work with another substantial pay bump this offseason. Unsurprisingly, the Raptors were eager to keep the 7-footer, who has been a key figure in Darko Rajaković’s offense over the last few years.
On Tuesday, NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the two parties had reached an agreement on an extension that will see Poeltl earn $104 million between 2026 and 2030. As part of the deal, Poeltl took up his $19.5 million player option for the 2026-27 season, but he will see a significant salary boost for the 2027-28, 2028-29, and 2029-30 seasons.

Poeltl’s NBA Career Earnings
Following an exceptional two-year stint at the University of Utah, Poeltl was considered a consensus first-rounder coming into the 2016 draft. The 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year was the ninth pick in his draft class and went on to sign a four-year, $12,231,806 deal with the Raptors, per Sportrac.
In 2018, the talented center was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. His next contract saw him earn $26,250,000 over three seasons. Poeltl returned to Toronto in 2023 and signed a four-year, $78,000,000 deal, the contract he is currently under.
Overall, he has made $77,247,126 to date, and that figure is set to skyrocket to over $200,000,000 by the time his latest contract runs out in 2030.
