‘You Gotta Watch Out for Me’ — Rockets Star Kevin Durant Issues Hilarious Warning to NBA Fans Calling Him Out Online

Kevin Durant of the Houston Rockets joked about online haters in an interview with FanDuel's Kay Adams, talking about dealing with NBA fans.

Kevin Durant has achieved almost everything there is to accomplish in the NBA. Many consider him along the same lines of LeBron James and Steph Curry as the faces of the sport. However, Durant’s relationship with fans is unlike that of James and Curry,

Durant, who turns 35 in July, has a contentious relationship with fans, often arguing with them on social media. Despite being considered one of the greatest scorers in the NBA, fans have frequently criticized Durant’s lack of glory before and after his stint with the Golden State Warriors.

Rockets Star Kevin Durant Responds with Humor to Online Haters

In a recent interview for “Boardroom” with FanDuel’s Kay Adams, Adams asked Durant about the difference he feels when interacting with fans online and offline.

“Oh, it’s way tougher online, for sure,” Durant said. “You get the real person in person. But online, that persona, it’s cool to have it because your inner thoughts can just come out with no consequences. But when you see me up close, it’s a different deal. And now, you might just check your mentions and see me in there, too. I’m just everywhere. You gotta watch out for me.”

Several athletes face this situation, and it is not restricted to basketball. Former UFC lightweight and current commentator Paul Felder shared that he once dared an online fan to trash-talk him in person. However, the fan replied that he would know the repercussions and hence talk online.

For Durant, the back-and-forth exchanges with online fans seem non-ending. He even had some online interactions with fan in June 2025. Funnily enough, all those criticisms stem from Durant’s decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Warriors.

One of Durant’s heated interactions with online fans happened in December 2024. Durant old pointed out that most people in the world will die as his haters. When asked about how an outsider views his non-success without the Warriors, Durant said fans are emotional.

He even said they are jealous when a fan doubled down on his claim that Durant joined a “super team” in the Warriors that had already won 73 games the previous season before him joining.

Durant has also faced criticism for matters unrelated to his success. His bold take that fans are the problem, not the NBA broadcast’s use of a lengthy commercial during the NBA All-Star Game, garnered notoriety.

Apart from online interactions, Durant has had tense in-person exchanges as well. In April 2024, a female Dallas Mavericks fan used a derogatory remark against Durant when he was warming up. The 2014 NBA MVP confronted her while she was with a male companion. Interestingly, Durant intervened to stop them from being ejected, a move that garnered praise.

With Durant being acquired by the Rockets in a trade with the Phoenix Suns, it remains to be seen how fans will react to him. Initial responses have been positive, but only time will tell what the future holds.
